AI Limit
How is it? Is it more like Dark Souls 1 with a world to explore or linear slop like Dark Souls 3 or most souls likes?
Anonymous No.715624585 >>715629635 >>715657582
It's linear for the most part, but the level design is on par (better at times) with demon's souls and dark souls

Progression is linear, much like DS3. There is an optional area, and the levels generally have enough verticality, hidden rooms and side routes to encourage more playtime if you're going the completionist route β€” which isn't particularly grindy in this case.

Eh honestly it's more like 3 strong enemies and possible 2 bosses for the finale
The real true ending shit

But the game is what i wanted souls to be
Fun level design, exploration, secrets, small areas
A real adventure game with simple to follow quests if you look around instead of the obscure impossible to follow esoteric random bullshit

The hitboxes and fights were fun, nothing over the but technical enough to be aggressive as your skillset allows , none of that 45sec waiting to make 1 hit and then running and rolling around for 60sec
I got it for 30$ and i loved it more than elden ring and the dlc slop

It’s more like DS1. The environments aren’t nearly as diverse but there’s allot of exploration that isn’t just straight halls and this is coming from someone that didn’t mind Lies of P’s level design.

To me AI limit is like 1 part DS1, 1 part DS3 1 part BB 1 part

It's one of the most fun soulslikes I've ever enjoyed.
I'd say only Nine Sols would beat it in terms of enjoyment, but that game is 2D.
As for the final rating, I don't think I could give it any higher than a 7.
The game feels very rough. Enemy design isn't very varied, animations are a delayfest and level design has too many areas where you can fall to your death.

>How is Wo Long?
Decent after all the patches and DLCs. There's no stamina, base attacks are free. Instead of stamina, there's spirit, you rapidly accumulate it by deflecting and doing light attacks, you spend it on martial arts, spells and guarding. You gan go into "negative" spirit, but if the bar becomes completely red, any attack will guard break you and leave you open for a long time, usually a death sentence.
Levels are like smaller Nioh levels but with jumping and verticality. There's an NPC helper system, they are mostly there for your first run, in NG+ they become useless.
Magic system is amazing. Not only all the spells fluidly combo with melee and martial arts, there's a wuxing system on top of it. You can cancel enemy spells by using the correct counter element, for example an ice boss cannot use his aoe attacks if you have an earth spell, it will cancel the ice out.
The game also really wants you to do all NG+ cycles. It adds new enemies but also gives ng+ gear up to 6 martial art slots leading to impressive combo potential. Then in the endgame it gives you a roguelike mode alongside the ability to improve and swap martial arts around. Plus bosses on ng+ drop new spells, between 3 DLCs there are nearly 40 new spells and all of them are amazing.

The only big issue with the game is the morale system, it kinda forces the game to flip flop between "bullshit hard" and "too easy" depending on the amount of flags and exploration you do on the level, but patches made it so you can control its cap so you can essentially set up your own difficulty in exchange for better drops.

From the starting area to final boss the game is relatively linear. So there isn't anything equivalent to fumbling your way into New Londo Ruins right after landing in Firelink, or finding Blighttown through Darkroot Basin and Valley of the Drakes, if that kind of non-linearity is what you're looking for. However I found the levels themselves to be well designed and fun to explore, such that they didn't feel like straight corridors to bosses. I personally enjoyed the game a lot.

I liked both Code Vein and AI Limit a lot but there aren't really that many similarities outside of anime graphics. There's no character creation or traditional stamina system in AI Limit, and the variety of playstyles is more limited when compared to how customisable things are in Code Vein with blood codes and inheriting gifts. It's also less anime trope heavy and the story is presented in a more subtle way similar to how it was in DS1. Unlike Code Vein which has a tonne of cutscenes where shit gets explained to you. I preferred how the combat itself felt and the level of design in AI Limit a lot more though.

There are two kinds of souls fans, those who enjoy the combat and those who enjoy the exploration.
The former wants more bosses, less exploration and have just finishes another no weapon level 1 Dark Souls run.
The latter wants less bosses (or more padding), more exploration and aren't tryhards, so the game is generally harder for them.

Very enjoyable, I had a great time with it. More like Bloodborne than Souls though. Not extremely difficult, the hardest fight (Ursula) wasn't easy at all but certainly beatable.
It is more exploration focused with elaborate areas rather than constant boss fights, more akin to DS1 than 3. And the area design is nice.
Got some jank, but it's nothing too irritating.
Graphics are servicable, not great But I'm of the opinion that graphics could've stopped advancing at about this level of quality and we would've been just fine so take it as you will.
Gear is... weapons aren't very balanced, some are way better than others but nothing should be too awful to beat the game with. Armors have different damage and status resistances but they're mostly cosmetic imo.
Characters are nice, nothing bad here. Best girl is Arissa with how incredibly adorably autistic she is.

It's level design isn't like that, when people say it's more like demons souls or bloodborne is how the enemies are placed on the level, how you have to explore little rooms to get items, how there are small jumps and drops to get back to the start of the level and get hidden items, etc.
It's not interconnected, but there are some trains that take you to other levels (only like 3 though). If you NEED to play an open wold game (why would anyone want that), then this isn't for you. You can't have good enemy placement unless the levels are closed off.

DaS3 is exploration heavy, some people don't understand overall game progression/structure versus level design. DaS3 has a more linear order that you each area in but the actual levels themselves are not linear. You can safely ignore anyone that uses the term "boss rush" because 99% of the time these people have no clue what they're talking about.

AI limit is closer to DaS3 in that the overall area progression is more linear but the levels themselves still have side paths, shortcuts, and good exploration in general.

Because most people mistake level design as the map layout like you are doing, but that is not what it is. It is everything that encompasses a level, from the map to the stats of the enemies in the area. Enemy placement, levels, visuals, lighting, roads, where the player is naturally drawn to, item drops, traps, etc are all important aspects of level design. DS1 discussion and the overhyping of it's "interconnectivity" killed the term it seems.

To me one of things that makes AI limit so good is that you can easily tell this was made by someone that cares about the genre but had a cap on the budget. Some of the quest lines in the game are some of the strongest I’ve seen in the genre and this especially goes for Stone the Coffin Bearer. From the weird hostility he shows you right when you first meet him. To him giving you a coms device to call him when you see people β€œworshiping”. Him helping on the broken roadway was absolutely kino. Easily one of my favorite characters in the game along with Shirley. AI Limit doesn’t reinvent the wheel and some people might find it archaic because it’s slower than some of the more modern games in the genre but I easily loved it more than Code Vein, LoTF2, Steel Rising and few other titles. It hits a mid way between both types of souls likes but largely sticks to the DS1 playbook but with some of the bells and whistles of the later games.

Also finding the entrance to S.E.E.D was absolute cinema.

Knew it's limits and tried to avoid them.
Also very fairly priced.
So yeah, easy winner in my book.

I really like Khazan because I'm more interested in the combat and bosses from these type of games, but the levels in that were probably some of the most linear, with minimal side paths to explore.

It's weird how you can't tell him that part about Shirley (even though Delpha very much cares about her despite not knowing he's the dad, since he asks you to give the flower to her).
Meanwhile Arrisa tells people stuff like "Otto is dead" and "Assis you aren't real" without hesitation.

I am playing Wild Hearts now. The game was clearly inspired by Monster Hunter. I don't like MH and I'm enjoying WH, even though it's repetitive and is nothing remarkable.

Why? Fuck me if I know.
