I've played NV to death and honestly Fallout 4 is way better than people say about it. It literally tries to copy ideas and mechanics from NV and it even comes out pretty well
>gutted misshapen boring shell of an rpg
It's literally the same system as NV with minor changes. Sometimes it feels like people who hate F4 just haven't played it

I prefer the magazine system from Fallout 4. In general the skill system has worked poorly since the very first game
At first you lack skill points, but closer to the middle of the game they are simply unnecessary, especially in Fallout 1/2 where most of the skills are not worth investing more than 70%
Fallout 4 system has a bunch of problems but at least the attempt was made

Modding Fo4 into a survival shooter where you have to be careful and play cautious and set up camp and eat and manage resources is some of the best and most engaging gameplay I've ever had.
Playing it vanilla gives me brain damage at this point. I literally forgot how generous fusion cores and power armor were. Or that settlements just produce free water without any perk investment.

Bearly any interesting quests, VA protag with no dialog options. In NV, everytime I get to choose what to say I take pause since what you say matters. The factions have a lot more depth and you get to see each faction from a pletora of different angles. Also no radiant slop quests to pad the gameplay. Damn I can go on and on but I think I'll stop here.

Even NV often only has 2-3 dialogue options let alone other Bethesda games
>everytime I get to choose what to say I take pause since what you say matters
I love NV but you're exaggerating. NV has a bunch of filer dilalogues and Fallout 4 also has a bunch of dialogues that matter (way more than other Bethesda games)
> The factions have a lot more depth and you get to see each faction from a pletora of different angles
Fallout 4 also has this, at least tries unlike other Bethesda games

I was just thinking about maybe actually doing a retarded thing and buying it; after many years I finished another Fallout 2 run yesterday and I realized that Fallout 4, 76 and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel were the only games I've never played or beaten
I realized I'm not too too concerned with lore retcons and bad story writing after 3 (and even 2 to some extent); is the game at least sort of fun as an lootgoblin-driven FPS? Is the map at least fun to explore?
The only thing that gets me really badly, from what I've seen, is some of the weapon designs are fucking STUPID as hell
next time its on sale for 5~ dollars I'm thinking about buying it

It makes installing packs fucking easy
Even though 90% of packs on there are 200+ mod monstrosities that take an entire afternoon to download and install, assuming it even works on the first try.
It IS still easier than trying to config something wtih that many mods yourself.

>from what I've seen, is some of the weapon designs are fucking STUPID as hell
Yeah, I really can't imagine playing without mods
But in general just pirate it, the current technical state of Fallout 4 is just awful and needs too much work to justify buying it.

I wish there were actually good, balanced modpacks for this game. It's a waste of time but sometimes I just want to roam around a wasteland, go into some shithole and kill everything that lives inside.
But the last time I tried to download some mods myself I found a 10mm SMG that crushed every other gun I had at the time, it was hard to justify using anything else. So I'd either have to force myself to stop using it or tweak the ini files and balanced the game myself. I don't like the idea of doing either so I just dropped it.

Assuming the creator is still at it anyway.
It had a good focus on balance and tweaking everything added back into line. On the other hand dude was pretty focused on making it a scavenger game so I consistently found myself using several different guns just for ammo economy.

I'm biased because I started playing it with my dad when I was young so I have nostalgia but in my mind its really is like Jagged Alliance: Classic Fallout edition
If you don't expect the classic Fallouts going into it, and if you ever played 2 while companionmaxxing and wanted more control over them then its pretty good, nothing to write home about but worth a play if you aren't a total purist

I'm not near a pc rn so I can't properly dissasemble what you said but I disagree with most of what you wrote. FNV tops F4 in almost every way. Have you even played NV? it has oodls of personality, a cohisive game world. You can shoot ghuels to space, blow airplanes out of lakes and participate in underground arena. Some times you have so many dialog options there's a lil scrollbar at the side(even if they're not game changing, they immerse you further in the gameworld. Something F4 lacks). When it comes to factions, you can see how they opporate and afect each other just by casually talking to some farmer. The world has depth. And again, I can go on but it's late here.
F4 can be fun; I played it and the dlc but It isn't an rpg or, imo, a proper fallout game. It's like compairing Deus ex HR and Borderlands; but saying Borderlands is DEHR's sequel. There is nothing that made the former game great in the latter. Sorry for my incohirent rambling.

>FNV tops F4 in almost every way
Yes, I never said Fallout 4 is better than NV. NV is obviously better but Fallout 4 also has its advantages and I enjoy both games. But you'd have to be blind to deny the similarities between these games.
>Some times you have so many dialog options there's a lil scrollbar at the side
If I remember correctly, vanilla NV has only three answer before the scrollbar appears, not to mention that most of these answers lead to the same outcome. I say in terms of the number of choices NV and F4 are about on the same level but NV just has a much better overall quality of quests (which does not make F4 bad). Even the universally hated quest with the kids in the fridge in Fallout 4 has like 6 different endings depending on your choice, which is unheard of for previous Bethesda games. And many of the Fallout 4 quests have more consequences than the NV ones, that's one of the things that Bethesda really did well
>When it comes to factions, you can see how they opporate and afect each other just by casually talking to some farmer. The world has depth
Fallout 4 also has this, sometimes it's successful but sometimes it's not but NV is abosolutely the same. It would be a lie to say that NV is perfect.
>t isn't an rpg or, imo, a proper fallout game
It's as Fallout and RPG as any other game in the series. You're greatly exaggerating or rather you're just repeating the conventional opinion, which doesn't really match the truth
>It's like compairing Deus ex HR and Borderlands
NV is not Deus Ex and F4 is not Borderlands. Continuing your comparison it's more like original Deus Ex and two modern ones. They are different games with many similar details both good in their own right

In retrospect I think one of New Vegas' biggest strengths was how well defined its identity was. New Vegas was about the west, and cowboys, and las vegas, and casinos, and gambling, and vice, and guns, and law, and bandits, and adventure in untamed lands. Basically a mishmash of every western movie trope that was then topped with a layer of political intrigue and fallout franchise staples. But then I think about Fallout 4 and while it's superior in pretty much every technical aspect to NV it just doesn't have the same spice that makes me go, oh yeah, this game is definitely about X and inspired by Y. I think they got close with Far harbor in terms of a well defined vibe but by then it was too little too late. That being said I'll always love Fallout 4 for giving us the assaultron.

Visually Fallout 4 has this junk sci-fi style and in terms of story it had synths
It's definitely not as well crafted as NV but it exists
