It didn't. This is another HRT-fueled cubie delusion. The shartcube's "legacy" and "cultural relevance" is propped up by a dozeon obese troons streaming their speedruns of Mario Shitsine, and sMelee groomer conventions.
It's library boils down to better RE4 cutscenes, a dozen shovelware party games, the worst 3D mario, and the GBA player to play some actual good games. The only good thing about the Shartcube in 2025 is having is being an add-on after you softmod your much superior Wii.

The shitcube is an embarrassing laughingstock when you think about it. Worse than every Nintendo console before it, worse than every other console released in the 6th gen, and worse than every Nintendo conosle released after it. The PS2 mogs it in every way imaginable, with better games, more games, more attachment, better media playback, better controller, better online, etc

Same reason all nintendo stuff stays relevant. Nintendo keeps their franchises alive so new people grow an interest in the older titles.

Playstation, and most 3rd parties have a different mascot franchise every generation and only calls back to old series when they have a remake ready to sell. There are lots of old gems on pc xbox, and ps2 but how would you hear about them aside from a thread on /v/?

Smash Bros and other party games. The PS2 was a juggernaut but it didn't have the same quantity of group games that the GCN had. It also helps that the GCN flopped and as a result you could get them for 20 bucks from most pawn shops.
