I played FF6 first, and it's not my favorite. Granted, the first time I played it I could barely read English, and I had no clue what I was doing, so I just died to a random encounter after Figaro castle, didn't know about saving (I was used to password systems), and didn't touch the game back then again.
After that I played FF7, FF8, FF9, FF1 (GBA), FF2 (GBA), FF3 (DS), FF4 (PSP), Tactics, Tactics Advance, Tactics A2, FF5 (GBA). Not in that order, but yeah.
I'd say FF5 and FF9 are my favorites.

I think it depends on the person. The first one I got to play was FF13. FF13 is not beginner friendly whatsoever due to how the story and background information is presented. Fortunately, I was captured by the world and I was willing to dive into the in-game lore wiki they provide. While it's not my favorite, it's probably 2nd or 3rd place by a small margin.

Maybe. I played 6 and 7 first, and both still hold god status for me. But when I first played 7 I didn't like it, mainly because it wasn't 6. It took a few hours until the new world and characters grew on me. 4 and 9 are also great, especially 4 was interesting, it showed many good ideas that were expanded in later installments.

Because Yu Yevon survives by possessing bodies and he possesses the Final Aeon which kills its summoner and thats how the summoner dies. Braska chose Jecht to become the final Aeon, so when they destroyed Sin (which Yu Yevon is inside and basically uses as Armor), Yu Yevon possessed Jecht and started reconstructing Sin around it.

Supplementary material explains that dream Zanarkand is a physical place in the middle of the ocean. The way Jecht left dream Zanarkand was simply by being washed away by Sin, like Tidus. Its also how Auron managed to get to Zanarkand, as its a physical place.

Part of the reason behind Yevon's no machina rule is not only to prevent weapons of mass destruction from being created again, but its also so society doesn't reach a technological level that they can travel the world quickly and find dream Zanarkand so that dream Zanarkand can forever live in peace, preserved how Yu Yevon remembers it. (hence no airships allowed)

The Fayth simulation of Zanarkand is fully featured enough that the summoned people there can have children. Tidus and Jecht are fully featured humans. The only thing that's different is that they die when the Fayth stops dreaming

He's not fake, dream isn't a good word to describe Tidus despite the fact they use it. Tidus is an Aeon/Summon.

The world of Final Fantasy X has a form of magic known as summoning where they can create things from nothing, using creatures called Pyreflies, but those things are real and tangeble. Hence why Fiends can be hit and killed, why Aeons can be hit and hurt and killed etc, and why Tidus can bleed, die, etc. Why Jecht does so, how Jecht can be scarred.

Yu Yevon was an exceptionally powerful summoner, powerful enough to recreate Zanarkand and preserve it after it was destroyed in a war with Bevelle.

Its as real and physical and tangeble as anything else, it was simply summoned or dreamt up by powerful summoners.

It's later revealed in FFX-2 that Tidus was based on someone called Shuyin who actually lived in the old Zanarkand 1000 years ago.

The entire moment with Balteus is in my own personal video game hall of fame. Not just the difficulty, but the music (which made me misty-eyed when I first heard it) this strange new voice imploring you to fight and the aesthetics of it all. A fight against a fucking drone had no right being this good.

Like I said, the DLC confirms what people speculated over with the final shot of the main game, that being yeah the worlds did merge back together, did you really think anything else would happen, the whole thing would have been absolutely pointless if that were the case but yeah given your beef with the game, the DLC was never going to fix it other than maybe having a more tangible villain than a concept (and arguably a better final boss theme but I completely disagree on that one, Redeem the Future + Finale is outstanding but Battle Against Z pt2 is superb, the best final boss theme of all Xeno games and I will die on this hill) and wrapping up some loose ends.
I liked 3 a lot, more than 1 but less than 2 and X and I get what they were going for with their choices but some of them just didn't jive with me, I can't necessarily call it bad.
