The issue with games is that you're still reading the localized script even if you switch to Japanese audio.

Depends some games made in non-English speaking countries are still written originally in English for a majority English speaking audience, so I'll usually play those in English but if the game was translated into English I'll play it in the original language.

This is only a teeny tiny part of how terrible the localization is for this game. For example, in the EN the citizens of Kugane and Doma very often exclaim "For the Kami, Kami forfend etc." In the original Japanese the kami as a concept are very, very rarely mentioned. This is because Japanese belief structure is vastly different from the west's interpretation of gods. In the EN they make it out as if "the Kami" are just a replacement for OG God.

I played Clair Obscur trying French and English voices (I understand both). The two are about the same high quality all around except Maelle who inexplicably sounds like a butch girlboss hag in English. At least she sounds like a teenager in French.
