Why do people like the fat PlayStation 3? It's loud and it YLODs every 2 years.

it's pretty cool how it's one box with native hardware for ps1, ps2, and ps3
just a shame that that made it so unreliable, but if you had one still working today, repasting with modern thermal paste would probably help a lot

Found one at goodwill for $25. I need to replace the Blu Ray drives ribbon cable but it's in good condition besides that.

What actually sucks is how fucking slow data transfer is between 2 consoles. I reballed mine and moved everything to another console.

The very earliest models of the PS3 are the best because they had real PS2 hardware in it. Every PS3 revision after did emulation.
I believe that these OG PS3s are the ones with 4 USB ports, and later revisions had less? Not entirely sure.

Any good guides for home brewing them? Actually picked on up recently, not the backwards compatible one sadly but i’ve heard they still run most ps2 games great via homebrew

>Just buy a preheating base, 80€
>Just buy soldering paste to convert to soldering balls, 20€
>Just buy the specific CPU/GPU stencil for the soldering balls, 10€
>Just buy a soldering work station that will actually reach the melting point of the original solder, 300€
>Just buy 40€ of consumables such as solder flux, resin, wick, IPA, to do all this
>Just learn several years of skills and expertise to do all this
Not worth it for a single PS3.
