Because it came during an era where its style and gimmicks were becoming “old fashioned.” MLAATR premiered and aired during the same era as action, story heavy cartoons like Samurai Jack, ATLA, Teen Titans 2003, Danny Phantom, Kim Possible and the growing popularity of anime in general. All the things its inspired by or takes influence from were what kids liked in the 90s. The geometric artstyle with quirky characters and a girly protagonist saving the day was done earlier and better by Dexters Lab and Powerpuff Girls. By no means was it a bad show but people grew out of the tropes it leaned on.
