I enjoyed the first for a bit but stopped and haven’t gone back to it. Just got tired of the backtracking.

just isn’t that intriguing to me. I prefer games where you’re given most or all the tools and abilities you need up front so you can just play and enjoy.

So I haven’t tried the second one yet.

Once you get the Dark Suit it's awesome. Game's a bit of a slog before that point though. Also, watching the GF massacre cutscene back in 2004 hit different. It was weird seing Nintendo go that hard.

That's how metroidvanias are structured. If you knew you didn't like the genre, why did you play it?

my favorite prime game. the map is better for optional backtracking
people who bitch about the ammo just never use missiles are too stupid to use the freeze+missile combo (it works on some dark enemies too)

only real criticisms are the sky temple keys and maybe some scummy save station moments.

sounds like its just not your genre, but you may enjoy the combat focused metroidvanias which hardly bother with map navigation and most of the stuff you find is optional playstyle stuff.

My favorite of the Trilogy. Perfect difficulty especially on Hard, lore is really interesting, enemies and bosses are tough, and I enjoy exploring the areas and backtracking in this one. I really hope we get a Remastered version of it sometime after Beyond drops.
