what are your favorite hidden gems?

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Criminally underrated action-adventure with a surprisingly heartfelt story and Andy Serkis doing mocap. Also, Alpha Protocol-janky as hell, but the dialogue system and branching story paths are wild even now.

Does Gears count as an hiddem gem or is this just a bait post? Like sure it's not FF7 level of popularity but i think you know it if you're into JRPGs.
I'll never forgive Square for killing Gears 2 for the spirits within btw

Xenogears is a 10/10 masterpiece, but everyone knows about it and has played it already (except for zoomers)

not hidden. also very overrated with some of the most offensive random encounts of all time that doesn't even let you explore and enjoy the music for 5 seconds and an unfinished second half

Spotted the zoomzoom who hasn't played it and got his opinion (as he does all of them) from an e celeb

Someone who looks beyond appearances and judges a work for what it is, placing it in its proper context
>t. zoomer who has Gears as its favorite game

nta but I tried it cause I heard good things and once the game started proper I was getting back to back random wolf encounters walking around and I realized it really is just another fucking jrpg and I quit.
I don't get any satisfaction from that kind of gameplay structure, I don't care how good the hundred hour storyline is.

What music? Half the dungeons are silent. Then it gets even worse in Saga where all of the dungeons are silent. What were they thinking?

That's super fair, it's a very repetitive gameplay loop. In general i think that's why when people talk about the best JRPGs overall they tend to mention Chrono Trigger or FF7, they might not have the same level of story ambition, but they manage to be more consistent overall

If you like Xenogears play Kartia. It’s dated, but the story is really good and the fiction of using enchanted paper cards is cool

If you liked the demo, the full game is just more of the same except you get different gameboy games to unlock shit with. I got about 30 hours on my first save before NG+. Definitely worth it on sale, one of my favorite games to turn my brain off to.
you also get to leave the hospital hub
Also this. It was 100x more fun than Twisted Metal.

I bought this at a Sony store in NYC way back in the day. The whole β€œrun anywhere you want” thing, along with the slow, methodical combat was really unique for the time.

Never played this but I really loved Vigilante 8. Not sure if that counts as a hidden gem, because people seem to be generally aware of it.

>I bought this at a Sony store in NYC way back in the day.
That's kinda crazy because I'm from NYC. I got it as a gift for having a good report card.
>Never played this but I really loved Vigilante 8.
I never even heard of Vigilante 8, will look it up now. But yeah it's basically a fun, more raunchy and dirty version of Twisted Metal. If Twisted Metal = American Pie, than Rogue Trip is like Scary Movie or Euro Trip.
>pic related
Ok this is the last hidden gem I'll post. Really enjoyed this one as a kid too. I really need to go back and play some of this shit, it's been literal decades.
