Not saying it's ideal (Especially if you have IRL friends) but it can be nice if you get one of those early access games that actually gets updates. Steam is kinda underrated as a download manager, which puts it above something like itch.io. The larger issue is that the general clamp down is going to effect even non-steam games. The same thing happened when Patreon got pressured by CC companies, and don't forget what happened to DL Site.
