I never understood this. It reminds me of the end of one of the Paranormal Activity movies. A grown, healthy adult male is looking for his missing daughter who he knows is in danger. He enters a room full of 70+ year old women, who begin to WALK AT HIM MENACINGLY. Instead of knocking them the fuck over and slamming them until they tell him where the fuck his daughter is, he begins panicking in fear and backtracks. Why are horror movie characters so scared of harmless girls and women?

I think it's meant to be the juxtaposition of something innocent being actually menacing but it rarely works in stuff where the little girl or woman or other innocent thing isn't ACTUALLY scary. At least in F.E.A.R. alma had some blood on her but that doesn't exactly do much.
