>>715698232>I'm just surprised the most iconic Xbox tittle is a multi platform FPS shooter. The PC port of the original game was done by Gearbox, a very mixed bag with no co-op, 30 FPS animations, bumpmapping was removed along with some other weird regressions, shitty netcode, but extensive modding. And the Halo 2 port was intended for Vista. So on a technicality they were 'multi-plat', but they both came quite later relative to the original Xbox releases, had some stigma of bad PC ports, and were a drop in the bucket in influence comparatively. Xbox enjoyed a good deal of popularity with system link at the time too, which was basically just Xbox LAN gaymen.
Bungie's last stretch with Halo 3, ODST, and Reach, as well as the 343-developed 4, all wouldn't get ported until MCC; there's at least one game in there that wasn't ported until like 13 years later! Halo Wars (by Ensemble of AoE fame) also wouldn't get a PC port until much later, Halo 5 only had its Forge mode ported to PC, and Infinite was released simultaneously between PC and Xbox SeX - where Microsoft had more or less synchronized both platforms.
So for all intents and purposes it remained largely a Xbox IP until recent years, which ended up getting overshadowed by Call of Duty since CoD4.
