One of the games that I run has difficulty settings (Easy & Hard) with the only difference being how much damage you take. Most of the skips (mostly minor and 2 major) rely on damage abusing meaning that the harder difficulty is less interesting (especially in a marathon setting) than the easier difficulty

As much as I want a sequel, I can kinda see Nintendo's reason for why they don't. Because GX does feel like it perfected what it wanted to do. So unless there is a new idea, any sequel would just be a copy. New tracks and online racing wouldn't really be enough to make it feel different. Maybe lean more into the off-track flying and create racetracks with lots of multiple routes that you can jump between?

As an RPG fan I do think a lot of RPGs translate poorly into speedruns, because it always comes down to going really fast has a % chance of failing that is not surmountable by any sort of skill. You can't always do that. TDE Nocturne Lucifer fight is as consistent as they can get it. Sometimes Lucifer just doesn't co-operate. And the point is if you want to go really fast, you have to play riskier. Marathon strats for RPGs can be different than the ones people use for going for record, and there's a certain degree of unreliability forced because getting more reliable takes too much time.
