A bunch have just one function that's redundant or outclassed by a different pal, or something worthless like Kikit's.
>>715733496I don't think Once Human is a good comparison. The creatures you collect there are more like occasional abilities for combat and the complexity of the home base ones is more limited compared to Palworld.
Besides that I don't see Palworld being affected much by gacha monster catchers. Palworld has overall great creature designs and you won't see anything like dedicated servers or any kind of modding potential besides maybe model/outfit swaps in those other games.

>>715734616Never had that cursor issue, Pal AI definitely still needs to be improved in tight areas and the oil rigs though. They still run into walls a bunch or try to go after the first guy that randomly aggro'd a mile away instead of the enemies right in front of them.
>>715719538Used to be Galeclaw
I think they made it chill the fuck out between the last time I played and now.
I recall these motherfuckers having a huge aggro radius, and generally being a menace.
Right now? Gorirat Terra. There's a spawn of them I can't quite fucking wall off at my oil base, anything I put down they spawn on top of, any wall they seem to fucking ooze through.
They aggro, run over, and pull everyone off what they're doing and get fucking carpet bombed by Anubis launching themselves off the patio of the mine.
It's annoying as fuck.
I have a base at the autism cave in Feybreak where something similar would probably be happening with Cryolinx Terra, if I actually had anything there, besides the move passing breed farm.
>>715719538Croajiro on Sakurajima before the recent update. They used to spam that ground water spout that hits multiple times and sometimes in groups.
>>715734249I'd hope so.
Though, I would be cautious about too much complexity in 'em.
Neptilus is about the upper limit of what they should do, Neptilus already reads a little bit like a yugioh card, and shuffles your button assignments to fit everything in.
But some of the fukkin useless ones should absolutely get something. All the like, "X type pals drop more shit" pals need something else for sure, I don't think anyone actually uses those.
>>715732924Broncherry is a case of older pals definitely needing a touch up for work suitability.
Most of the newer pals power creep the FUCK out of base work. They have more varied work types, at higher ranks, for less food, and often have a bonus for their passive.
The fact that Broncherry Aqua doesn't have both planting and watering is just sad, while shit like Fuack Ignis is allowed to have both watering and kindling.
As much as I like Broncherry, there's just no reason to use it over Braloha it's purely a vanity pal
Still not as bad as any of the "fukkin, I dunno, give it level 1 gathering lmao" pals, but, those need help, too.
>>715732449It gets easier
Self-suffiency is pretty comically easy, even for 15 guy bases.
The problem more becomes forgetting about a niche base for long enough that they get through all 400 salads you left, than having 400 salads to leave, you know?
>>715736239At the very least Broncherry has some combat usage with passable stats. Nox on the other hand is the king of jobbers.
How should I choose a location for a new base? I plopped my first one right outside the starting ruin, just below the fast travel point, because I thought it'd look cool, only to realize just how shit the building mechanics actually are - at least the ore deposits are good enough
Just got lvl 20 FWIW
>>715726072Alpha Jormuntard is a treasure.
The base I did in a friend's game was a walled box, and Jormuntard would regularly peek out over the top, caught on some bit of terrain, or stick his entire fucking body out the side while making cakes.
He's a good guy.
>>715736918At lower levels you really just need a lot of ore and stone and wood. You don’t have enough “required” buildings yet to put in your base. When you get high level and you start needing to worry about quartz and coal and ore and hexolite and keeping higher levels pals fed then you need a lot of space for everything.
>>715709127>caught a female>sounds like a maleAt least pitch it up or something.
>>715736918Probably yeah. Imo the best reason for having a base outside the starting areas is that supply drops/the meteor won't happen until you're close enough to a higher level area.
>>715737339There needs to be male and female models of pals, though most could remain essentially the same like Cattiva.
>>715733697there's mobile shovelware for it already
>>715714823This man has never seen a supply drop in his life.
>>7157369181. Coal is probably your first real production bottleneck. You need a coal node in your base. Ideally both coal and ore, but they CAN be in different bases. Better if in the same one though. Coal needs Mining 2 or better pals to collect, Cattiva won't cut it.
2. If building on a non-flat area, you're usually better off making an elevated foundation platform, and ramping down to any ground you need.
Center map has some good coal/ore spots. I tend to prefer mining bases to be pretty minimal
3. Long term, you're gonna need an oil base, too. This is a good way off, so it's not really an imminent concern, but while you're out and about, consider marking any place that has 2 close enough to be in the same base. Having 2 wells is nearly mandatory. Oil tends to be common in the desert and Sakurajima. Also the tropical islands.
Don't worry about Sulfur, you never need enough to justify basing near a rock of it, and it's better to buy bullets anyways.
Quartz, you MIGHT need a rock of, but, the time between needing it in real numbers, and being able to glass Victor and build the mine is pretty close.
Hexolite, a base would be nice, but by the time you're needing it, mining rock at a base is kinda unreliable, since the rocks deload when you're far enough away, so unless this is a base you're gonna idle in a lot (breed base, for example) you probably won't get much.
Chromite can't really be mined this way, best you can do is throw down a base near where some spawns and gather it yourself.

>>715732418Not mine but I thought it looked cool, pretty sure it has modded placement tho.
One of these I gotta make a base that looks nice, instead of raw utility.
My sense of aesthetics kinda sucks tho
I'm bad for that, in games with big free base construction mechanics.
Look at people making their things and think I should do something like that... but when it comes time to make my base ends up being someyhing very basic.
Like in Kenshi I saw peoples novel and multi-layered base/gate defences, but ended up just putting a straightforwarded single gate with harpoons on the walls next to it (one wall being maybe slightly angled compared to the other because of the land I was building on)
>>715741723Having a few foundation pieces to work with is both a curse but also a blessing. It kind of reminds me of Timeplitters mapmaker which was simple, but you could still make impressive maps with the right combination of pieces.
After long breeding and max condensing my Yakumo I've just found out that Legend is not passable.
Ignoring the fact that its almost impossible to breed a perfect pal thats also alpha, do you use alphas or nah? Some Pals look just weird with the upscaled size, especially pals that are usual smaller ones like Dazzi, i think bigger pals that take up too much space on the screen or are more likely to get stuck are extremely annoying.
Not worth the 10% more hp and movement speed in my opinion.
>>715743053If they are hilariously huge then yes.
>>715743053Alphas are good meat shields for some attacks. But the size is mostly a bragging rights thing. It does affect some signature moves though.
>>715743053what if thats my fetish tho

I remember the Timesplitters map maker.
I don't think any of the maps I made were ever actually good, but I had a lot of fun with them.
Good times.
Future Perfect was a better time.
>>715743487The thing I remember from Timesplitters as a unique gimmick was the Assault maps, played with bots and you had to either reach specific objectives or hold off the other team. Those were great
>>715741535Has almost 0 functionality and im pretty sure some of these foundations and walls shouldnt be able to be place in these places, theres some fuckery going on there, but other than that, its extremely cool. I like it.
>>715743053Depends
For pals I intend to ride, usually no, because the increased size actually hinders them with worse dodging.
For small pals, I'll try for it, since it prevents them from being trampled or ragdolled as easily. It's almost mandatory for Cattiva specifically, otherwise Punch Flurry gets interrupted super easily from trampling, and has difficulty reaching any floating pals. Other small pals benefit too, but, Cattiva is kind of a special case.
For pals that are already big, I'll also try for it, Alpha Jormuntide is a treasure, and Alpha Braloha sticking its head through the floor is beautiful, too.
Otherwise, I'm indifferent. I'll take it if it happens, but won't really seek it out or take worse traits for it.
>>715743270>>715743405>>715743482So its more a situational or fun thing for you guys. I thought people would have a stronger opinion on that. Figures tho, not something you would work towards to and not universally desirable.

first time getting swift on something in this new save. what can i breed this guy with to get a giga flying mount
>>715745370Literally any salvage location that allows the use of the magnets. I swim around with max condensed neptilius + jellroys and it gives me a ton of laser rifle, flamethrower, and hexolite armor schematics. Also a decent amount of skill books. You're also going to need a ton of coralum and salvaging is the most reliable way to get them.
>>715744805Legend is not passable by Yakumo? What the fuck, im in the middle of breeding one, so i can scrap that?
>>715745550No, I've salvaged before. I'm asking in what spot. I've never seen a blueprint drop from doing that.
>>715745660I've only heard it's not passable but I've never tried. It does say on the passive that it excludes certain passives. I do know vampiric and demon god can be passed though since I've done it.
>>715745562actually, those are the footprints for an Elite swimming pal
>>715745663Oh, I salvage around the Feybreak island water. That's where I get my drops from
>>715744884>stretched texturesnever noticed, do you have screenshots? if not ill check it myself later
>>715745660Just caught over 40 pals with my max condensed Yakumo with only Legend as a passive and didn't get it passed down even once.
>>715744417As far as I've seen, no. There might be a fringe case, I don't totally understand how trampling works, but I THINK it's kinda just a simple "pals under a certain size can be trampled, pals over a certain size can trample", with an added consideration of relative speed difference (I think speed impacts the damage, too. Slower, big pals often can't trample pals that are running away, but can if the other pal is stationary/moving towards them, often can't trample at the start of their movement, until they pick up a bit more speed. I happened to be catching Cattiva to condense at right around the point where my Quivern would kill some, but not all with a single trample, and found that consistently, it would kill if I was sprinting, and consistently wouldn't kill if I was near the very beginning of when trampling could occur at all, or if they were running away. Trampling can also headshot, under somewhat strange circumstances, almost always when going uphill, and is Normal type, regardless of mount type, and thus deals less damage to Dark, but no idea how it interacts with mount abilities that change player attack types)
I've never been able to trample a Teaphant or Celeray, who are visually near the barrier of when trampling can occur, regardless of how big the mount goes, so that leans in favor of it being an if true= toggle for pal size, than size being at all relative.
There might be some fringe case pals that can't trample normally, but their alphas can, but I haven't experimented with this. Melpaca might be a candidate? Haven't used it, no idea if it tramples normally.
And, it's pretty much only a real issue for Cattiva, since, as far as I know, unless I'm forgetting someone, Cattiva is the only small pal with a melee unique attack, and I see regular Cattiva get trampled out of it pretty commonly, especially later on, when big, fast pals are more common. I'm probably forgetting someone though. Bigger issue for pvp though, since you can stunlock
>>715745872seems pretty clear then, it does say some are excluded but legend being one of them never came to mind, makes sense to me now
>>715745761aren't those kinda useless though? even with fishing now flying is still better right
>>715745761I have a Jormuntide with these 2 (and runner).
Motherfucker hits coastlines so fast he fukkin bounces into the air and sails over the beachline.
Coolest thing I've ever done was this bounce, into a syndicate base in the desert (the one with the like, cube on the top, bucket on the bottom, and the one that spawns kinda north of the arena), started Jorm's unique in midair, and just fucking annihilated everyone in it, and finished in the water on the other side again. It wasn't a hard base, but it was the most stylish thing I've ever seen in this game.
>>715746250Eh
Infinite stamina in the water is useful (infinite sprinting if nothing else), salvage is useful, and a well bred Jormuntide or Neptilus are honestly almost as fast as Jetragon. Neptilus is also almost a flying pal with how fucking high a condensed one jumps out of the water.
Also really nice for Feybreak, since, y'know, you can't fly there until you blow up the things.
Also the oil rig. A good swimmer is nearly mandatory for the hard oil rig, both getting there and getting out, unless you just deathwarp home.
It's niche, but has a lot of applications. Plus, Jorm is pretty legit as a ground mount, too. It's surprisingly fast, it's just big as fuck so it looks slow, but you actually kinda haul ass on it.
>>715746001i think when a pal hasnt aggrod to you, you deal more damage to it, am i imagining this? this could explain the different damage, but i do find some things strange and im kinda curious why we dont know more about this considering how in-depth palworld guides usually are
>>715745660Can corroborate.
I made one with Swift, Demon God, and Legend, and I don't think I've gotten any Legend passes.
>>715746572Swimming pals dont consume stamina even when sprinting, dont they?
>>715746778I thought this was the case as well
>>715746634Yes, this is a thing, but that modifier is pretty huge. I dunno what that modifier actually is, but it feels like it's at LEAST 2x.
That's a lot more noticeable of a damage bump. It is a factor though, and can make trampling sleeping pals surprisingly lethal, that goes from like, inconsistently oneshotting level 4 cattiva, to peeling most of the HP off a level 22 Flopie.
>>715743053I play on a server with reduced incubation time, so rolling a lot for alphas isn't too much trouble.
Generally I'll go for it on pals where the increased size isn't inconvenient or odd looking. Cryolinx is a pal I really like but prefer the normal size of.
>>715746778Yes
Sprinting is free for swimming pals in the water. Also how you can tell who actually counts as a swimmer. Like Chillet, who despite the huge swim speed, is not actually a swimmer, or Broncherry Aqua, who despite the pretty bad swim speed, is.
PROBABLY unintended, since attacks don't drain stamina in the water either, I feel like this is a "set stamina consumption to 0" code that's aggressively colonizing every source of stamina loss, but, it hasn't been fixed yet, despite probably being a pretty easy one, so it's probably staying.
>>715747287doesnt need fixing desu, if anything all non-flying pals need every buff they can get to compete. i hate how jetragon is still madatory when you want to farm anything without bashing your head on a wall
>>715747287My understanding is that true swimmers are water pals. Funny that you can fish a Surfent Terra but it can't swim for shit.
>>715747601Yeah, I'd agree. It's a nice feature for them to have, and legit, fighting in the water feels amazing. Fighting on a Jormuntide in the water feels like you're cheating.
Mostly I just mean it feels like a bug, mechanically speaking, that COULD be "fixed", but since it hasn't happened yet, probably won't, unless it comes with some kind of big stamina overhaul that fixes it by accident.
>>715747761I think so.
I wouldn't be surprised if an exception existed one way or the other, but the fact that Broncherry Aqua counts despite being as weak a swimmer as it is leans that way.
Haven't tried Elphidran Aqua yet, but assuming it swims as atrociously as vanilla, if it also counts as a swimmer that would probably be a slam dunk for this being the case.

They're more relevant for multiplayer, since each one is kind of a staging area for the early game. They're definitely not made equal, though.
Are there supposed to be patrol routes that dictate whether or not your base will get raided ? I haven't been raided a single time yet.
>>715739884The main reason i use x3 spawn rate is because it really make the islands feel alive with pals.
>>715757870I think the way it works is there's invisible raid spawn points around the world, and when the game goes to spawn a raid, it looks at all the points within X of your base, and calculates if they can make it to your base, then picks one that can make it. If there's no point nearby, or no route they can path to your base, the raid is canceled. This occasionally has funny hiccups, like raids thinking they can reach your base because a corner of your area is down a cliff, or they think a foundation wall is pathable, but I have noticed some bases seem to only get the bird raid, once I block off some access routes.
If a base is in a weird spot, it tends to not get raided, like islands, or the funny cylinder building in the celestial mountains.
This is just by my observations though.
>>715759203It does seem like pal spawns are higher in certain areas as well compared to before even with default spawns, just to note
>>715731023I guess it'd boil down to how technology is learned. If I find a tablet that can magically transfer knowledge of how to build shit like guns, space age metals, and even basic wooden tools because I can't tie knots for shit, then living there would be max comfy. If I have to learn everything myself naturally then it'd be pretty shit until I've gotten a few Pals that can assemble all that stuff for me. Either way, eventually living in the wilderness with an army of cuddly pals I can snuggle wholesomely with, nearly infinite gourmet food, unlimited guns and ammo to plink things with, and a surprising amount of futuristic comforts would be so much better than my current existence.
>>715759331This is 100% true for Sakurajima every base set up is 2 minutes building, 2 minutes fighting off Shroomers at night, Verdashes in the day, Moongenins that hear noise and come look.

>>715765195I like the sides of the mountain the Free Pal Alliance is on. South half of its faces, especially southeast.
A lot of little streams, lakes, and waterfalls, and a great view.
The terrain is pretty bad for building on, and there's basically no resources, maybe some sulfer and trees, but you can usually support a house or something down into the rivers and lakes to take advantage of it, and get some topside space for breed farms. Can lend itself to megastructures though, since the cliff sides can be kinda obnoxious.
The cylinder on the south shore of the Celestial Mountains, in the little ruin area does have some nice views, but the site itself is kinda ugly, and has some jank spots. The mountains themselves have a couple nice shelves, but you'd better like snow.
Of course, the cherry blossom and mushroom swamp areas of Sakurajima are nice. There's sites you can build at, the swamp itself is pretty hostile to building in, and there's some neat clearings you can make nice little houses in, in the cherry blossoms.
The tropical islands are pretty AND really useful, because they have a fuckton of oil on them. The shipwreck islands can be nice, on top of the big rocks, too.
The long beach to the north of the boss Penking is nice. Ocean view is a bit spoiled by the oil rig, though. You can claim some of the cliffs behind the beach, too, if you're comfortable with complicated building layouts.
Feybreak has some nice spots, you can snag a hexolite ore and get a nice spot pretty easily. But, there's a few really pretty spots around in the depths of the island. Dealing with the SAM turrets is a drag, though, and you gotta be a little careful of overhangs above you, sometimes those kinda abduct pals and you have to get them back down.
Both low level islands on the left side of the map are pretty. They have the huge, sheer white cliffs, some pretty dense forest, and some interesting landforms to build near.

>>715766843There's not really a trick to it, besides figuring out where some are, whether they're day or night spawns, and checking periodically. The night time Kitsune just south of the Icy Weasel Hill warp is an easy one, because it's a few seconds of flying from the warp, and is bright as fuck so it stands out if it's there.
There's a daytime Gildane one on Mt Obsidian, north side of the island, the little ruin area, just across the broken bridge from the bounty that's pretty easy to pop in and look for, too.

They need to buff ground mounts HARD, im buffled that Tarantriss cant just climb walls, this would make me use her in every situation over a flying Pal for example.
Do you know of a reliable pure quartz location near a waypoint?
>>715792241Not exactly close, but I recall there being numerous quartz clumps just north of the crater in the frostbound mountains (the smaller snowy area)

So I've been kinda out of the updates. What's the deal with feybreak? The new mineral is hexolite but I need chomite to refine it, should I just invest in a bitchin' smokie and metal detector? Or are there other ways to get it?
>>715793847Supply drops in Feybreak has a small amount. If you beat Bjorn, you can send expeditions for some too, but the amounts are usually small. Your best bet is to invest in a Smokie, go to a Feybreak Dungeon or overworld boss cave, and use Smokie's ability to mine some out.
>>715794025Alright thanks! Time to compress some Smokies.
>>715793847smokie is by far the best way, dont need a detector
>>715794378Just a heads up rank 0 Smokie still gives double chomite drops so you don't have to feel pressured to max condense one if you want to get a decent early stockpile of chromite (max condense gives triple drop)

>>715800162Sometimes if you really love something you want to see how beautiful it can be when in pain or going through suffering. Death is an unfortunate but priceless ending to such a journey, though personally I'd prefer an emotional rollercoaster that ultimately leads to a happy and dependent Pal. When she understands just how bad, and just how good, things can be I'm sure she'll be able to appreciate both life and the way that I, her trainer, treat her. It's pretty wholesome when you think about it that way, huh?

A Pal is a wonderful thing.
Ever wonder why there's almost no human children on the islands?

>>715806925>AlmostAre you implying there are any at all?
>>715807153Zoe was a child there at some point
>>715807045For once it's not the ice type.
I think ground or grass has the biggest power outliers though.
Ground pals have that one golem-looking guy that's basically carrying all the other ground pals to be good, especially with support from dumud. And ground does have some good moves (rock burst, stone beat), but they didn't even get a fuck all laser, instead they got some kind of iceberg style attack as their ultimate attack.
Grass pals are plentiful, but not many are really 'end game' material. The head of the grass type, Lyleen, offers more support than actual damage, but the ivy status, I think, puts them above ground pals.
Water would have been pretty bad, but now the Terraria update fixed that.
>>715807045Normal
It doesn't resist anything, including itself, isn't strong against anything, and still does reduced damage to Dark.
Holy Burst is pretty good, though, and Celesdir is kinda smoking crack.
I'd say Electric is another candidate. The type itself is fine in theory, the problem is mostly that there's a lot of pretty bad electric moves, and very few strong electric pals, Orserk is kinda it. With Trust, you can make some of the other ones good, too, but it still runs into the moves usually sucking, so you need to spend extra time getting skill fruit.
Best type on paper is Fire. Fire resists 3 types (Itself, Ice, and Grass), is effective against ice and grass, and is immune to ignition, including from Dragon skills. It's slightly nerfed ever since any type can fly over lava and not die, but it used to have that going for it, too.
In practice, Grass PROBABLY has the best overall moves, there's a lot of really good ones, Wind Blast is probably one of the best basic projectiles, seed mine is fucked up, vine spike and circle vine are great, and so on.
Dragon and Dark also have a lot of really good pals as the type
>>715806925they'd get picked off easily.
plus capturing them would be too controversial.
>>715807045Ground. All the attacks do SHIT damage and they're boring as fuck. Electric, Ice, Dark, Dragon, Water and Grass mog the shit out of it.
>>715806925Zoe is practically a womanchild does that count?
>>715807676Finsider has the coolest water attack and that hydro blast is insane doing a full sweep and aftershock damage. Hopefully the next update will fix ground type to not make them completely ass.
>>715807406Pre friendship boost I agree. Post? Lmao no
>>715807676Earth kinda has similar problems to Electric, but I'd say not as notable. There's some bad moves and not so good pals, but there are quite a few good pals who are earth, even if most of them are carried by unique attacks to make it work.
Water is... I'd say the most "average" type? They used to be a bit rare like Electric, pretty much your only endgame option was Jormuntard, but, there's a couple other candidates now, and Trust puts in work for some of 'em like Pengullet and Celeray. Fine moves, no complaints. Soak is the worst status effect unless you build around it though.
Ice is good. Best status, a couple good endgame pals, good moves, but what really sells it, is how convenient the type is for endgame content.
Dragon, great pals, good moves with few duds, also convenient matchups for endgame.
Dark has multiple statuses associated with it which is neat, great pals, kinda "eh" moves but with some really good ones like Neutral has, and the typing is... decent for endgame content. It makes Astegon tough as balls in the face of almost the entire endgame at least
>>715808236Oh, and Fire itself has a pretty average selection of pals, and decent moves. Kinda average besides the abnormally good type interaction spread it has
>Got game, made crappy base
>Put all my points into attack

Alright so my tism is gonna force me to restart, figure I'll put my first base on the left hand side of the waterfall with the ore node, I also just messed around there and can get the big pal explorer thing in the water that looks cool.
Any other little things I should do to set myself up, I already know about not using points on lower tier gear
>>715809678Dumping all in on attacks is fine and actually meta. You can make/find a potion that resets your stats and caches give potions that increase your stats so don't worry about it
>>715807907Anubis kicks ass though.
>>715809678Don't worry about it.
You can respec later, and get a fuckton of stat boosters through supply drops and other sources
>>715809678Spread out your points more and for your own good put a decent amount into weight because otherwise gathering stuff early on is gonna be an even bigger pain in the ass than it already is.

>>715812949Actually, dark pals don't resist normal attacks. The dark moves are strong against normal pals, but they don't resist normal type attacks.

Does this have big multiplayer servers like ark and rust?
>>715819430I'm almost certain they do.
Player attacks and tramples are normal type, and do reduced damage to Dark types
You can check this pretty early on, where Daedreams and Hoocrates in the starting areas are normally comparably tough and durable compared to same level stuff around them, but are noticeably more durable to player attacks than the others.
>>715821594And you can also see this difference when you use pals that shift the type of player attacks. You'll do more to dark types, even if your attack isn't being boosted by the effect.
>>715820969For some, but the treasure maps have the new stuff and better stuff without the need for commitment to run the 60 oil rig, unless you really want the plasma cannon.

How does Astegon's passive work? i don't see it dealing more damage to Ores with its attacks nor i see myself getting more ores from ore rocks i destroy unless it only works on the basic Ore rock.
>>715823962>i don't see it dealing more damage to Ores with its attacksThis allows it to deal reasonable damage to rock-type ores with its attacks while riding in general, and is a common effect several pals have. Some for ores, some for trees, some for both. Though, trees tend to be weak enough that effect doesn't really matter. Means you can use it instead of a pick/explosives, mostly.
>>715823962>i see myself getting more ores from ore rocks i destroy unless it only works on the basic Ore rock.I can't say for sure exactly what Astegon's works on, but Smokie's works by doubling your drops from Chromite rocks, more if you condense.
