Now that I've finished this game after 50 hours of playtime, I can confidently say that I didn't understand any of it.

It’s never explained how Yui got all the Lahan refuges to Shevat. We must presume that she fought her way to the top of Babel tower over the course of days (if not weeks) without the use of a gear, while also guiding all the refugees.
Therefore, we can conclude that Yui is one of the most powerful Xenogears characters.

I heard that the Solaris dungeon was the worst in the game, but I didn't mind it. None of the enemies were that tough. The Shevat one was easily more annoying.

Every time I play this game I can’t help but grind unlocking combos as soon as possible. I spend ages doing it when Bart joins.

even with emulator speed up I just can't sit through the boring combat of this game man. it's even more mindless than an idler. and then on top of that the encounter rate is so high. the setting and story seems cool but I just can't carry in any more. would've probably loved it as a 7 year old when gameplay meant nothing to me cause I had nothing good to compare it to and a sense of time that felt infinite.

Well I mean when you first go through there you do get the linear tram working again, and that travels on the outside of the ship's hull as well
There was maybe an intact station close to ground level with easy access from shore that Citan knew about, but you couldn't use it the first time you were there because the tram wasn't working at the moment.

It's spread out over a long RPG, if you weren't fully paying attention to some detail in a cutscene 20 hours ago then you might not understand the significance of things. I don't think most people understood everything without reading Perfect Works summaries online.

I miss PSX era RPGs with super convoluted stories though. Added a certain mystique to the worlds. Xenogears was great.
