My dad hyped this movie up, but I didn't like it at all when we watched it. It was insanely predictable, and despite the intense anti-war message (seriously, the movie keeps hammering it in over and over and over that WAR BAD), they for some reason (I assume they had budget to burn and needed scenes for the trailers) slap a huge action setpiece in the middle of the movie and makes war seem fucking awesome (the tank and flamethrower scenes). Even the main character and his buddies suddenly develop plot armor and turn into epic action heroes having a boss fight against a tank for a few minutes.

What I meant by liking the ending is the MC dying after saving a younger recruit. His death at least had some meaning even though it was bullshit because he survived all those years and even outlived his comrades but war is war.

The newest war movie I enjoyed was Unkown soldier because it was filmed in Finland and used actuall explosives etc. instead of CGI.
My issue with CGI in war-movies is that the actors just dont react to shit properly. If you have dirt fall on you because shit is exploding next to you the reaction is genuine etc. Not some dude going "Okay, pretend this green cube next to the green cube is a tank"
