Will we see a "dumbphone" movement in videogames?
Anonymous No.715728149 >>715728203
you mean java games? I think they are archived somewhere

Did you miss the last ten years of 90s and 00s boomershooter/pixelshit revival?

Not really, unless the main selling point is a much cheaper price than it's competitors.

There's a modern N64 clone, I forgot its name
Other than that, I don't really know

I have no idea what you're asking. Are we having a movement where people made video games differently 20 years ago? Huh? Go fuck yourself.

I would buy a very cheap gaming system that can run fortnite and similar games on my TV. As long as paid games are physical.

OPโ€™s talking about a console that replicates the those of the 90s/00s where the games are physical and thereโ€™s limited (if any) online capabilities, you retards. Like those โ€œclassic consolesโ€ but ones you can keep supporting with new cartridges or disks.

It wouldn't run fortnite. The hardware wouldn't be up to snuff.
>inb4 "you can run fortnite on a toaster"
Don't care.
This hypothetical is not "a slightly cheaper console that r runs modern games on low settings".

You clearly just want talk about dumbphones and not vidya.
People treat this board like it's /b/ and it grinds my gears.

Other than the pixelshit and ps1 crap that's been spewing out...I doubt it, because it would require actual knowledge of programming. Would be cool if there are new games coming out that are coded for snes, gba, etc.

If we did it'd be a scam like the Amico or Chameleon or under supported like the Ouya.

There are people developing games for the N64 and N64 emulators right now.
>>715729071
>where the games are physical
All games are digital, even "physical" game. A "physical" release only matters if you have no ability to download it otherwise, whether that's from official services or pirates doesn't matter.
What truly matters is a lack of DRM, a lack of external services that can't be hosted by the community, the ability to play on generic hardware and the ability to copy it to other storage media.

Hello OP. What you're asking about still doesn't make sense. Are there new video game consoles coming out? You can just look it up. The answer is no. There are not people spending millions of dollars to design a console and then spending a couple (hundreds to thousands) million dollars to get exclusivity deals with game developers to make games for the vanity project.

When my dad would get annoyed at me for playing too much videogames, he would call me a vidiot.

So this is just one big LARP right? Like how hipsters would collect vinyls because it was trendy.

There's a guy on Twitter who posts about old and usually for a time lost Japan only phone games. It's pretty cool shit

No, it's a bunch of people getting increasingly fed up with the need for a fondleslab to operate in society and fed up with the increasingly dystopian surveillance of all things made possible by smart devices. Some are also annoyed at the price of smartphones when all the person uses is talk and text, all the extra functionality means nothing to them but are forced to pay the cost. Or people fed up with the increasingly addictive nature of social media and how it feels like it has ruined our ability to connect with each other or even have independent thought by pushing everyone into sort of governing mentalities. This is nowhere the same as vinyl, which was more of an audiophile's cope about what sounds best that was then taken up by hipsters as a "heh, i am better than you" sort of posturing.

People have been complaining about online gaming and digital media for years before the dumbphone movement became a thing.
It's like watching Mickey Mouse and wondering if real life mice will be a thing one day.
