I honestly don't remember, which is funny considering I remember what opinions were like for Halo 4 (which everybody hated) and 5 (which people actually were pleasantly surprised by for the multiplayer)

I haven't played the campaign yet, but I think Infinite's multiplayer is great, as far as the core gameplay, sandbox, and the non BTB maps, and obviously the forge is elder god tier, it having always online DRM shit aside

It just needed a quicker rollout of additional content or for more stuff to be there at launch. Also the sandbox balancing patches make a dumb change for every good change they also do

When MP launched it was mostly positive because of the game play, everything else such as limited customization, lack of game modes and ability to select modes to queue for that were the first waves of crticism, but then as months rolled by and we got literally zero to minimal updates it started to sour.

By the time the campaign dropped people didn't really give a shit outside of a few shitposts of the weapon's closes up, the brute guy and Atriax beating up Chief.

No one gave a shit, no one cares about Halo anymore, that's what happens when you hand it to a new studio and they make shit game after shit game with no identity. Infinite had the most promise but they absolutely squandered in between their barebones launch and one of the worst real money shops in gaming. Big Team Battle was broken for like a month shortly after launch, it took ages to get any real playlists and by then the player count jumped off a hill. Now you wait months between updates just for them to release some community made Forge maps into matchmaking and the only compensation the creators get are some Infinite Fun Bucks for the shop. Infinite was supposed to be a 10 year game and reaching almost it's halfway point, it's content has still yet to reach parity with the more fondly remembered Halos. That Microsoft could produce such a shit title under one of their (at one point) largest names is just a microcosm of the enshitification of all sectors in the world.
