I'm surprised people still act as generations is any good, been playing it off an on lately since shadow came out and it's mediocre to terrible.
Always feels like your fighting the controls compared to how the previous games felt since sonic is so strict in his movements. Hell just went through a level and for the fuck of it just held boost and completed about 85% of the level only having to stop and do some minor platforming a couple times. I'm pretty terrible at this game and still getting consistent A ranks.

This is the REAL Sonic

The model on the left is just a shitty render even by modern standards. Right is a classic design and was well rendered for it's era.

The Left's render and it's colors are too faded and the head is rather misshapen. The ears are too wide and the quills are too short, it all feels off. It's a poorly thought out design.

Sonic OVA is the best interpretation of Sonic. I liked the Adventure series, but it was a tilt in the wrong direction that would get progressively worse over the years. I wish all Sonic games past the classic series had tried to retain that 90s attitude/soul/feel that the OVA had. Every attempt to reboot the franchise has failed because they didnt do this.

20+ years, actually. This has been going on since Sonic Adventure. Hell, even longer than that if we start talking about anime and cartoons.

It started as a more basic platformer, before they had a clear idea. Ohshima and Naka conceived the idea of a game where you roll on slopes to gain speed. I was being sarcastic. That was made by the people in charge of mario's odyssey model. Sonic fans are just the only ones autistic enough to actually notice the nuances of his character design since his design is the only things that's stayed relatively unchanged in both east and west compared to most animal mascot characters. Sonic is an episodic series meant to go on forever and each game as an easy entry point for new players. The sonic cast and their personality is the main thing that stays fairly consistent in Japan because the games are a vehicle for cool environments and art styles. They do have stupid retcons at times like the moon, and whether humans exist in the world, but ultimately it’s all meant to happen to the same sonic cast. It’s not like Tmnt or transformers or whatever multimedia bullshit that has to rehash the same plot events over and over again. Shadow died, came back in heroes since it’s more canon than a spinoff handheld game, rejected his pass in sh06 and we’ve continued on since then. Besides some people even dislike yoshi’s current design compared to his classic design artwork in earlier Mario games. Sonic 2 manual references 1. Sonic 3 manual references 2. Adventure references Knuckles and angel island, and Amy from cd. Adventure 2 references tails saving station square and has artificial chaos, and knuckles master emerald chant from sonic sa1. Heroes in Japanese references Sonic’s talk with shadow by saying that stubbornness is his saving grace considering he’s alive after sa2 just like he should’ve died from the capsule. Shadow’s game references him not having any memories like in heroes. Sonic 06 continues shadow’s character arc after choice to go his own way and reject his past after his game. The next few mainline games don’t have any tidbits on previous lore to make them easier for newcomers and the games after are intentionally even more episodic and don’t focus on previous events. At least until forces makes direct references to chaos, metal sonic, and zavok from lost world. And then frontiers is so self referential to the past its headache inducing. It’s like asking if all the Mario games have the same Mario even if the geography of the mushroom kingdom changes each time. They’re clearly all meant to be the same cast. The sonic cast is the anchoring to the series because they like experimenting and don’t want to commit to a specific style Sonic’s world looks like.
