Working up the energy post-mig to play a videogame
gonna take a nap until celeste
>>715743716 (OP)>MararthonKek. Thanks for making the thread though.
There will be a time in the very near future where you will have to choose between Sonic runs ran by people who don't know how to run the games or 6 hours JRPGs. Which will you choose, soldier?
>>715743983Gee Felix, how come your mom lets you have two Isaacs?
>>715744016I choose both.
>>715744016I choose otherwise, I choose Spyro
>>715744016I can run sonic myself, i choose jarpigs
I always find it funny that GDQ always has an event "coincidentally" happen when another organization is having its Marathon on.
>Was on at the same time as UKSG (GDQ hotfix followed by a Dragon Quest event)
>Goes offline
>Was on at the same time as ESA (FFIX 25th Anniversary "Celebration" Marathon
>Goes offline
>Is on at the same time as ASM
>Its currently an SGDQ rerun so it will end on sunday when ASM ends
I want events like ASM to succeed and grow, but that success basically guarantees the event will become a soulless husk like GDQ. what a dilemma
>>715744283Oh and for tonal whiplash tune into the GDQ rerun and then into ASM then into GDQ rerun
>>715744016I choose the middle path.
>>715744283Boy oh boy I can't wait to watch troons poorly speedrun a game while a host butts in every 2 minutes with a shitty donation, in a censored chat that I'm not even allowed to type in!
>>715744016having never played either of them, I choose JRPGs
>>715744016>Dogwater during ASM's RPG hours>ASM during Dogwater's RPG hours
>>715744180>So I ask you, is an anon not entitled to an enjoyable run in his evening?>NO! Says the man from ESA, it belongs to Spyro>NO! Says the "woman" from GDQ, it belongs to TRANS RIGHTS (HOOOIIIPPPEEEE)>NO! Says the cunt from ASM, it belongs to everyone's-in-bed moight>>715744290Small events are fine imho
>>715744386>I can't wait to watch troons poorly speedrun a gameSounds like ASM alright.
>>715743959>MararthonThat's what I get for copying the other post
blocks
md5: f32a72f9330c67824b317dd95bb28a4d
🔍
So it kinda looks like ASM's routine is:
>6am - Noon: Comfy morning hours, lesser known games, lower energy games and shorter RPGs go here
>Noon - 6pm: Afternoon hours, the big games go here
>6pm - Midnight: Evening hours, the themed blocks go here (today its Decade Dash)
>Midnight - 6am: Graveyard shift, slap on a 6 hour JRPG
>>715744016I would choose 6 hour Sonic JRPGs if I could
>>715744415>ASM during Dogwater's RPG hoursYou have some serious priority issues.
>>715744818How the hell do you get DKC in 10 minutes?
Gonna go look that up now
>>715744728I keep clicking previous and they all have it kek
>>715744908then there is no reason to not to keep doing it
>Mararthon
Can we have RandomIke runs next? He speedruns for his friends, at least
>>715744903Wrong warping. You basically do like couple stages, the purple roc bird boss fight and final boss
>>715744908Guess ASM is officially now known as a mararthon. Kek how the fuck did nobody notice until now. The last correct one was 3 days ago
>>715744835Be careful what you wish for
>>715745152At least it's not got the stuff like the youtube link having eighty [embed]s behind it.
>>715745152funny if if true
>No Resident Evil run of any kind
Some marathon you got there
I'm interested to see how they win any fights at the end with all these skips. They have to at least fight Doom Dragon, right?
>>715745290>>715744835We can go worse.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAOI87BQ69o
>>715745325Last correct one was
>>715486237, second thread of the event. The mistake started with
>>715504429, guess everyone just blindly copied it
>>715744290Its already succeeding. Its a national level event that doesn't need to grow beyond that as it will defeat its point. It gets more than enough runner submissions to sustain a seven day 24 hour event and has enough income and runners to do two smaller two day events in the year too. Its known as the go-to event for Australian and New Zealand runners to do their runs on an event stage without having to travel to the other side of the world to do so and that's what it wants to be, it doesn't need to be anything beyond that. It even gets some international runners sometimes like ThaRixer this year who is from Denmark. And finally it raises a pretty decent amount of money for charity.
I think the only thing that'd be nice to see growth wise is maybe a couple hundred more viewers. Its max seems to be 1.5k with its prime time average being 1k. But I guess that has to do with time zones and such.
>>715745068>Wrong warpingYeah, I figured that was it, and found a video describing it
Lots of weird setups and frame-perfect glitches
It's fun to see once, but after that it's meh
>>715745536Yeah they don't have to be doing GDQ numbers or even ESA numbers to be a success, they're doing good while doing their own thing.
Much like with stuff like BSG, they're managing to persist and do stuff the way they want to be doing.
>>715745601Yeah, I don't think any% in DKC1 is quite that popular because of that
>>715744283GDQ is a for-profit business run by slimy (both literally and figuratively) trannies: it would be weird if they DIDN'T make a deliberate effort to overshadow real charity events.
>>715745735Plus the more sponsorships they get the more beholden they come, they're already limited with swearing and stuff.
>>715745946They're super limited by the fact they get government funding
>>715745946It's not just the sponsors they have, it's the desperate pursuit of more, it's taken other events to some very low places in the desperate need to keep the line going up.
>>715745887>lumilaura didn't get a run at spyro this yearlmao
>>715744620>Sounds like ASM alright. That paper mario run two days ago somehow managed to be worse than anything I've ever seen at Games Done Queer, and by a large margin.
>>715744283>>715745771Its funny when someone brings up other events to GDQ or they have to talk about the other events because they do so with such disgust and disdain. Even if its just a pretty small, wholesome local event that's pretty left leaning they act like the event is super problematic because they're not yelling trans rights every five-minutes. I can't even remember the last time I saw a runner at the event bring up another non-GDQ event, used to happen all the time, people used to wear shirts advertising events etc. then it suddenly stopped a few years ago. I bet that shit got banned. When the ESA drama shenanigans happened, GDQ staff were loving it and rubbing it in constantly on twitter, finally getting to take the potshots they always wanted to take.
Their attitude isn't just that "We're a better speedrun event" than the others, or even "We're the best one" but its like a position of "We're the only good one"
>>715746186He made up for it by putting a bunch of Spyro games on schedule.
Really sick of the hate watchers in threads that aren't GDQ
>>715746164This being the prime example. For me it was the look of disgust Nikoheart had during the Alien Isolation run. He felt dirty. He felt shame at what they brought into ESA's halls for money.
>>715746341So he ran right to GDQ? lol cmon bro
>>715746213People at UKSG/BSG/NSG tend to talk about stuff that happened at the other marathons fairly often, on top of them promoting each other's marathons at their own events.
>>715746067Oh cool so the government pays for the hotel and stuff? That's cool of the government. Beats having to use bits and subs to fund it but not tell your audience base like anotehr certain event. Also makes sense why they were gonna have the Minister for Autism do a speech in the intro but she couldn't make it.
>>715746341Celina still doesn't seem relevant either, that entire talent agency seems like it exists to sign people and HOPE AND PRAY they'll become relevant
>>715746392Yeah, its just a GDQ thing. They still allowed discussions about UKSG and BSG at this year's ESA which I was surprised by, thought they'd be no no words. Also no idea what a Heckathon is but I hear about that one a lot during events.
>>715746487HEKathon isn't worth giving a HECK about
>>715746417I got curious about what she's doing these days when she was brought up in the ESA threads this year. She just does IRL streams now which I think is for the best.
>>715746341The frustrating shit with that is most people get distracted by that clown show, and not the slimy backroom deal shit that caused it to happen.
>>715746417As far as I could tell they basically collect booking fees and stuff for people like TMR to show up and do blindfold Turbo Tunnel.
>>715746405They probably could apply for a grant for the hotel, but as of now they get a little pot of money that helps with advertising and permits due to being a not for profit fundraising organization
>>715746487Heckathon is a bunch of runners doing a small charity event, they used to do a takeover block at ESA but that stopped happening ages ago.
The only Non GDQ event specifically allowed on stage at GDQ is RPG limit break, and that's because they've been slowly replacing the staff with their own goonies for years.
>>715746582Whenever I see webms and images of the Celina runs, I always wonder if the three people who sat in the front row cardboard cutouts of her emojis were genuine guests, or paid actors, or guests who were paid to wave them about or what.
>>715746610Oh I see, how do they pay for the hotel then? I know the smaller event they just use a space in PAX.
Same with the prizes, the prizes are surprisingly decent. Are they government or sponsorships? I assume the climbing experience one is a sponsorship thing because their logo is on the overlay.
>>715746914I think those are her mods, not actual speedrun enthusiasts. At least that's what I assumed.
>>715746914Fans/mods, she's some kind of dumb streamer with a fanbase that apparently is big enough to need a talent agency, we do know for sure that her simp mod threw a fuckton of money at her "runs", enough to make it a very profitable thing for ESA despite anons thinking it was a disaster for them.
>>715747292It was a disaster for their credibility.
>>715747337Drop in the ocean of ESA doing that to themselves.
>>715747337i dont think many people care outside of /v/
>>715741515The amount of easy difficulty nepo runs at sgdqueer this year was disgraceful.
>>715747337>>715747432That was genuinely the first time I ever disliked something at ESA and the start of me thinking they weren't going in a good direction and me thinking ESA wasn't as good as it used to be.
Then what solidified it for me was the summer ESA where ESA had been shilled to fuck during both GDQs and it felt like activity in the threads had tripled and the threads were just shit up with chart arguments and Metako arguments and meltdowns over runs and shit, didn't have the same vibe of prior ESA threads and while it is better it's still not fully recovered.
Its why I don't want ASM to grow like
>>715744290 says because we got a taste of it on the first day here where they were arguing over charts despite this not being an event with charts. Felt random and pointless, like they were bored and needed something to be outraged over.
>>715747514It probably puts sponsors off them in a way, since it looks like they got way more out of the deal than the talent agency, but they were already doing that to themselves. Fuckers can't keep sponsors to save their lives.
>runner is a guy
>very passionate about the game, explains lots of stuff
>run has interesting tech and is impressive to watch
>couch isn't overloaded
>no women or troons in sight
Why can't all runs be like this?
This run is 3 hours long yet feels longer then FFX and Chrono Cross. We're only half way through.
>>715747762what happened to the rich furry that was sponsoring them?
>>715747787doesnt matter, some pissbaby will cry about the run no matter how comfy it is

>>715747787Don't worry they're coming! I can tell not just because it's Celeste but I've noticed they follow a very specific naming pattern. Don't even have to click their profile.
>>715747750Yeah I'd been thinking the shitflinging going on in these threads was not too unlike ESA being pimped out in GDQ threads as being GDQ but better, just with less pure event fanboyism and more /pol/ hatewatch types thinking this was going to be the new event for them.
>>715747869Allegedly had a falling out with Planks and Edenal.
Aussies so upsidedown they even gotta say RNG as GRN
>>715747973They did even during the most tame run of it ever at GDQ, it's basically the entire event for them.
>>715748020>initial d after the troonat least there is that
>>715748092>Allegedly had a falling out with Planks and Edenal. As these threads have a hateboner for those two im going to take that with a grain of salt
>interesting game but actually playing it is absolutely horrendous
>someone decides to speedrun it
>a single playthrough is still 2 hours
This person must not be in a good place, mentally.
>>715748636It's not that bad, controls are just a little clunky compared to more modern examples of the genre.
Huh, the ASM schedule web page seems to have some kind of malware, or maybe a crypto miner.
>>715747787>Why can't all runs be like this?Early GDQ raised some serious dosh and people realized that there's actually money in these sorts of events. Everything quickly degenerated from there.
>>715748687I disagree. I had quite a terrible time but saw it through because the story was so intriguing. The looping combat music is just as monotonous as the combat itself. Massive hordes of enemies that you have to kill with a very limited move set. Repeating levels, uninspired objectives. It actually feels like it's supposed to be mentally draining on purpose. The dragon flying sections are the only highlight in this game which is what the game was initially exclusively supposed to be.
>>715748858>Huh, the ASM schedule web page seems to have some kind of malware, or maybe a crypto miner. Are you talking about the security message that your browser gave you when you tried accessing the page? It just says that there is no HTTPS version of the website which is not a big deal for something like this.
>>715748428That's what I was thinking looking at the schedule. We have those two designed piss break runs and the rest of the day looks pretty solid.
>it's quite easy to drain his pp
>>715748020layla is the transvestite that ran sonic adventure and went "yipeeeee!" really loudly over and over
>>715748976No, something much stranger: whenever that page is loaded in any browser, suddenly the browser maxes one CPU core and a random (has been like six different random ones) service will start maxing a separate core. Weirdest shit I have ever seen and it took me ages to finally make the connection between the schedule page and why my browsers kept maxing out. (Switch to a different tab and restart browser fixes it, but if I switch back to the schedule tab it starts up again.)
>>715749340Hey I had that earlier when I loaded the schedule page my browser just slowed down until I closed it.
>>715749340>>715749467works on my machine
let me guess, Chrome?
>>715749546Waterfox, firefox, brave, and basilisk. Only ones I've been willing to test it on.
>>715749173Layla is also the insufferable one on the couch for the Chrono Cross run, that got shut down and eventually left
It's pretty cool that people just found the developer doors were just fucking sat there.

>>715744283So... I mean GDQ has been doing the replay of its last event for the last few events now.
That being said, GDQ tries to run shit daily now on their channel if they can help it and have been trying to do so for several years.
All their hotfix slop has been going on for ages, it sucks, but it's a thing. It's not like a spite plan at this rate, it's just how it goes.
They want more money so now they try to stream every day to make it.
If ASM was worried about the competition they would have buffered a week cause this isn't new.

so they went back to get another item (a gun) that would allow them to progress and continue the rest of the run but then theu realized they needed a 144 hz monitor to do the backup strat and gave up on that
fianlly they just loaded a backup save right before the final boss but they messed up the timing on the boss and died so they just killed the run kek

Which meant that there was less money coming in as people gave up>People began to realize specific hosts would read any donation as long as it had "trans rights" in it, and so they started exploiting that, to the point all meaning behind "trans rights" was lost because they'd just put it at the bottom so their message was guaranteed to be read even if it had nothing to do with trans rights. They'd just put whatever donation message they want then added "trans rights" at the bottom as a guarantee.
