why did the FFIX remake get canceled?

It did not get canceled thoughbeit, there is no confirmation of this just a redditor saying he "hasn't heard news of it in a while"

Dev hell, outsourced until 2023, brought in house. Current status hard indo to come by.
Will say it seems downright idiotic to do the 25th anni celebration without leading into something, but will have to wait and see.

How hard is it to remake the game with original turn based gameplay? it's not reinventing the wheel. or are they trying to make everything 3d now because that might be a pain in the ass considering how big some areas are.

Just take into consideration that FF tactics started development in 2018 and got revealed a month ago and what it ended up looking like. Sqex is a mismanaged hellscape, it’s no wonder they are going through a big restructure yet again.

it's doable if they keep the camera angles because then you only have to render from each static angle. making it all full interactive 3d over the shoulder shit would be a fuck lot of work.

neither of the 7R titles were announced on the literal date of their anniversary either but both were basically designed to release around the og's 20th and 25th respectively
SE had announcements last gamescom and/or could be waiting for TGA (which would make extra sense if they want to stop announcing FF games during the marketing push for other ones)

So nothing was announced by square? I remember all the “buzz” around the 25th anniversary of ff9, and SE kept dropping hints about something was coming. I completely forgot, and can’t seem to find any news since the actual anniversary last week

I would actually want a true ff7 remake. So TURN BASED, and no weird anime alternate universe plotlines. The graphics and open world off remake and rebirth can stay. Maybe some modder can mash it into a real ff7 remake
