Which remakes of Resident Evil were "unncessary" according to you? The first game was seriously outdated and it received great visual update while staying faithful to the core mechanics. It's not the best solution but it's still very good.
RE2? A complete reimagination of the original. New gameplay, new story beats, it's all very good.
RE3? Rushed, but the same applies to the original. You can't make an omelet with dogshit.
RE4? A good game. Not the best remake but it has its own strengths.

Now, other horror remakes? Siren, SH2, Dead Space? They're all worthless.
