remember when both sony and nintendo had free online and full backwards compatibility with discs AND digital games that could be played on multiple devices across different gens? they used to be consumer-friendly

I'm just going to jump in here to say I wish we could go back to 70% of this board being Sonybros vs Nintentards and endless console war shitposting. I hated it, and it was terrible, but fucking hell it was better than things are now.

Until the Wii, no Nintendo console was backwards compatible. Game Boy Advance sure, but DS dropped GB/GBC support.

DS phat and DSlite has gba support but not for multiplayer. DSi didn't have anything at all. The micro doesn't have gbc support too for some reason

Aside from Xbox Live, the original Xbox was an absolutely perfect console. It was that generation's PS3 in terms of power and functionality. Of course I was around back then so I have no idea what a zoomer like you is thinking posting this shit.

Why do people believe corpos would be consumer friendly in any way? What you see as consumer friendly is merely a trick to get more money out of you. If it stops being profitable they'll stop doing it. People seem fine with paying for online services so it stuck. Bad trends in gaming stick because people supported it enough. You literally are getting what you paid for; the good and bad of whatever comes with it.
