Yeah the tossing half full mags is fucking gay. True realism would have you hold onto it.

One of the few things i liked about dayz, where you could double tap to just straight up drop the mag out the gun rather than do the whole reload animation of taking it out and putting it in your pocket, then pick it up again after the shootout

I hate the souls mechanic with corpse running. It's either really frustrating when you're new to the game and getting used to it because you're punished for dying and failing to get it or once you're decent enough to the game, it's a pointless mechanic of where you can rush to anywhere in the map avoiding the enemies. Notable examples of this are Hollow Knight and Nine Sols.

exactly, I dunno what OP is on about. Re-loading a firearm obviously remove the cartridges that are in the magazine that you are removing from the firearm. It makes perfect sense. I always enjoyed games that accurately represented this feature, such as Vietcong and Arma.

I remember DSP becoming angry at Witcher 2 on KB+M because it always tries to hit the enemy you aim at with the camera, so he constantly got frustrated since he never learned to move the camera during combat
And to be clear, that game still has magnetized enemies, just that Geralt tries to go for the one in the middle of the screen

>Yeah the tossing half full mags is fucking gay. True realism would have you hold onto it.
The gay feature is where you reload, and the remaining bullets in the magazine that you removed get magically added to a "pool" of remaining ammunition. The good way to program this would be to have each magazine be its own separate "pool" of ammo.

That's ridiculous. I'm a gun realism fag, I think there's no game that has done guns entirely right.
>Guns should sometimes jam
A real gun will fail to "feed", i.e. a cartridge will get stuck in the action, causing the operator to have to manually remove the stuck cartridge
>Guns should overheat
Guns invariably generate heat, to the point where they become un-usable. This might cause a "cook-off" where cartridges inside the gun explode causing the firearm to break apart
>More realistic recoil
Guns in vidya seldom have proper recoil. This has become such a meme that handguns are often more accurate than long rifles, which is topsy turvy. Generally speaking, the heavier the gun and the longer the barrel the less recoil and more accuracy. The only game that somewhat got this right was Red Orchestra 2.

If I play any game with a magic system, it's because I want to cast spells and watch shit happen, not carefully dribble out fireballs while I desperately try to conserve mana that I may or may not get back in the near future. Games should have limitations around the ways in which you cast spells like duration, or have consistent ways to get your Mana back, but you should never feel like you're wasting a resource by using the fucking spells you specced into in the first place
