Why can't fighting games capture a modern mainstream audience?

What was the whole point of muh graffix retardation anyway
>>715791423 (OP)1v1, highly competitive game problem with a lot of depth (and as such a steep learning curve) but no breadth to it at all (all you do is fight other dudes 1v1 in a small arena, maybe you get a different background but that's it).

Seems like a genre you have to have grown up playing to be good at, or really autistic enough to have a burning desire to learn directional inputs.
Everytime I've tried learning fighting games, even if I spend a month really actively trying daily, it feels like every other player still has an enormous advantage over me. I feel like that trend would continue for at least a year.
Its just not even remotely worth the time investment. I could go do literally anything else and have more fun.
Its sort of feels like how I grew up playing quake and cs 1.6, and will just naturally stomp 95% of people on any pc fps or arena games even if I stop playing them for years.
One of the few genres in which the reason why you lose in a match against another person is because you're not good enough
Compare and contrast MOBAs which have equally ridiculous knowledge and skill ceilings, but have teams that you can either blame for your losses or weak enemies that you can stop if you're doing well

>>715797448Where am I wrong?
In team matches, you're always free to blame your teammates for your loses. Often your own failures aren't enough to entire sway a match either, so you can still perform poorly and pass by virtue of your teammates carrying you
In a one on one fighting game scenario, you don't have those luxuries

God, imagine laying down below Chun while appreciating the view and getting free hot piss
>>715791423 (OP)How many of the currently popular fighting game titles have gameplay systems worth learning?
Because it's an autist exclusive genre. Requires putting hundreds of hours to learn combos and then hope you remembered them better than the other guy because if not you don't even get to play the game as you're juggled through the air

>>715791423 (OP)>Why can't fighting games capture a modern mainstream audience?Having to learn inputs is the best gatekeeping mechanism.
People want to play games for fun, relaxation or to hang out with their friends.
People don't want to grind hundreds of hours on a stressful 1v1 game that will be irrelevant in a few months. Playing people they will never know, or worse, bots.
Simple as.
Non-MOBA RTS games are in the same boat.
>>715798352You misread entirely what I said. Dota is still a team game which gives people a chance to blame others for their losses
It really says something that people have no problem putting hundreds of hours into MOBAs without seeing much improvement but are put off by a similar, if not smaller, investment into fighting games. If anything DOTA being a high skill level game only further prove my point
