They are not subscriptions. They're one time rentals. You pay $7 and get a game for the week. Once its over, they don't charge you again indefinitely.

The big difference is that you knew you were renting something, you had a set date when you had to return it and no one was going to arrive halfway through the rental period and tell you >we have to take away your access to this game because it is no longer profitable for us.
