It's simple Nintendo really needs a system seller to keep the momentum of the Switch 2 going but they have dare I say no games so they really need DK Bananza to succeed and bribed the journos, and by bribed I don't mean they sent them a check but you know the usual industry practices.
But Bananza is a an experimental smaller game meant to be filler between two bigger releases, it even started as a Switch 1 project so there is a discrepancy between the narrative that it's the flagship game that justifies the price of the Switch 2 and what people actually got.
I'm convinced that if it was a Switch 1 game it would have been received much better because at this point in the lifecycle expectations are much lower and an easy kid friendly game with a gimmick would be a welcome addition.

It's not technically "bad" but so far like 3 levels or layers in or whatever it's kinda aimless, and easy. It's fun to move around and break shit but that's literally all I've done so far. It's like a neat tech demo with collectables literally everywhere you dig.

Nintendo should have made Hulk Ultimate Destruction but using DK instead. The game wouldn't need to be overly gory or extremely violent since the Jak games were pretty much also open world GTA clones but with platforming and for teens.

Imagine you are in jungle city or some shit among all the animals and DK is pretty much Hulk and can tear shit up. Maybe also have Diddy and Dixie as selectable characters that have their own style of gameplay. They can use bongo guns that shoot bananas or some wacky shit like that and drive vehicles and ride animals. This game would have been quite badass with the destructible environments. Would have unironically saved the DK franchise.
