Konami could make official paper tournaments more inviting by providing real prizes for the top placements, but even still I don't think the bulk of players would care that much about that

the third benefit is equally subjective, but collecting stuff is a valid desire as well. the problem is that collecting Yugioh isn't that interesting, since most sets focus on cards designed to be played, and not necessarily collected. there're no crazy rare alt-arts that someone might want to own for the sake of owning, most people that buy sets do it because they play the game and not because they like the individual cards. it's not like Pokemon where the fanbase is chock-full of people that really like this or that character, and they're always printing pretty chase cards to fulfil that niche. you do get some nostalgia-baiting chase cards in some Yugioh sets, but that's hardly the main reason people buy cards and I don't think that'll ever change

This is not how guaranteed URs work. If you would've gotten 1 UR without a guaranteed UR, then you would've most likely gotten 2 URs with it. The odds are calculated per card, and the guaranteed UR is ALWAYS the final slot of the final pack.
In a 10 pull, that final slot is also the guaranteed SR+ slot which is why the SR guarantee disappears when you have a UR guarantee. But the SR guarantee slot also has an increase UR boost with that slot being a 80% chance at being SR and a 20% chance to be UR.

So the bundle has an 80% chance that you get 1 more UR than a random 10 pull. Still slightly worse than just pulling packs, but if you wanted any of those accessories then they're extremely cheap.

I didn't ask to ban every handtrap. In fact, handtraps that trade for 1:1 is fine as long as your opponent isn't running like 20 different fucking handtraps. Hitting that and generic one-card slop engines would vastly help improve the quality of the game. My fucking local scene died a few months ago because everybody got sick of one-card engine slop decks with 20 handtraps. Both handtraps AND one-card engines need to get hit. Not one or the other. BOTH. Link-1s need to strictly be archetypal cards only with some kind of lite lock kinda like Spirit with Eyes of Blue except that card should of been strictly only use Blue-Eyes monsters as material to make rather than generic ass Level 4 or lower Dragon or Spellcaster. I think something like this is stupid, BUT I think doing a Duel Links style "limit to 3" system makes sense. Make it like limited to 15 or something and then put all the meta deck's cards on that list so that only the mediocre decks are allowed to actually use good staples and generics.

If there's 40k players and they release a 600 gem mate that's going to, at most, earn 2.4M gems worth of cash (worst case they earn 0 because everyone would buy it with their free gems when they feel like it, if they do). That's where deranged japs spend their shekels and keep this game alive, by gambling their souls out to get the randomized shiny stuff.

Not Quite. The new Shadowverse has retained most of its player base. At least compared to MD which lost like 95% in a single week. The rate at which MD burned it's player base, especially with his big of a brand Yu-Gi-Oh is, is not normal.

Let's look at the numbers.
Master Duel released on January 19th 2022.
By January 23rd 2022 the game peaked with 263k concurrent players.
A month later (February 23rd 2022) the 24h peak was 112k players after a slight spike a few days prior where 200k players logged in.
Another month later (March 22nd 2022) the peak was 60k players followed by a 120k player peak the following day.
So it took approximately 2 months for Master Duel to go to a little bit around a fourth of its highest peak.

On the other hand, shadowverse released on June 17th 2025 peaking at 110k concurrent players.
Exactly a month later (July 16th 2025) the game was peaking at 38k concurrent players. By the following day (July 17th 2025) the game spiked again and peaked at 120k (higher than the initial peak), however three days later its 24h peak is 71k and the tendency goes downwards, so I'd say unless massive game updates come the playerbase will decrease over time too.

You either play the usual genericOs for end board + patchy or play the go second variant which is somewhat the intended way to play the deck. Compared to other pend decks its quite resilient to handtraps aside droll.

If you want learn the in and outs from pend then Magician still is an excellent choice, both zarc and yuya are good, DDD is also great and use all summon types available.

Biggest issue with pends is utter lack of dedicated support meaning relaying on generics, aside DDD.

Pokemon only became the most popular TCG in recent years. It wasn't always like that, so to say Yu-Gi-Oh has some unfair disadvantage when it comes to branding is wrong, as Yu-Gi-Oh's branding is much stronger than Shadowverse, yet its losing to it. It's similar in paper, where Yu-Gi-Oh is getting mogges by Pokemon, Duel Masters, and One Piece.

Yu-Gi-Oh is where it's at because Konami doesn't know how to properly run the game to capitalize on its potential. The success it has had is on-site of Konami's poor handling. Yu-Gi-Oh is only alive due to brand. If it were any other brand, it'd have been dead ages ago. What happened when MD launched was all the proof you needed to see how bad Konami squanders this game's potential.

We're sitting here pretending like Yu-Gi-Oh is some obscure niche brand, rather than what it actually is, a titan brand title that rivals Pokemon in potential. The difference is, Pokemon Company, despite their flaws, knew how to maximize that appeal while Konami squandered it. Look at Digimon as an example of another brand with similar appeal being run much better.
