It's 10/10 and easily GOTY so far, but I'm not wasting my time explaining why.

The game released yesterday and is already forgotten. Only Death Stranding 2 has a slight chance and that's just because Dorito pope is Kojimbo dickrider.

Nintendo cannot win jackshit unless the game is really a big deal like BOTW. Donkey Kong seems good but no one but dunkey is gonna dickride it.

Silksong will win if it comes out this year. Discourse-wise it would destroy the muh small 400-people indie studio lie that the E33 shills have been peddling.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodliness. I really like the atmosphere and writing. I like how it tries to being both an immersive sim and a classic CRPG but it's a janky mess that's still super endearing nonetheless. I even like how it turns into a series of never ending action set pieces at the end.

There hasn't been a better game yet this year.
I was very impressed with it, especially after act 1.

To be fair it's incredibly rare in video games at all to find decent writing. Some RPG's are alright but the dialogue is usually just huge blocks of exposition. Combining a good story with well written dialogue might be completely unheard of before e33.

Tbf, E33 does nothing JRPGs haven’t done before. I think it’s well liked because it takes all the classic tropes of JRPGs and plays them 100% straight but with a western aesthetic.

Check out any game with an achievement for beating it. It's always a surprisingly low number. Hell, only 22% of people even reached the basic ending of Hollow Knight.

Entirely reasonable. Glad to see more people are realizing Renoir and Verso were the heroes of the story over time.

E33 has zero overexposition and lets the player think without having to reiterate story beats

had the game been japanese the gommage alone would have had hundreds of extra lines on how it works

I loved the prologue for this reason, no expository dialogue, every character talks believably as if they were people that already knew each other and are familiar with the setting. Act 3 had issues but 1 is perfectly paced.

The entire bridge between the end of Act 2 and into Act 3 is a massive exposition dump explaining the big twist though, so it’s not like E33 is above expository dialogue either. It very much follows the JRPG format of “adventure story with tons of earnest melodrama that gets gradually more convoluted with each new plot twist”.

It’s very in line with FFs VI, VII, VIII, IX and X in terms of its writing style.
