7th gen: japs couldn't adapt quickly to 3d and HD graphics so they were blown out of the water easily, westoids simply outperformed them and the 7th gen is considered as a dark age for jrpgs

To say one is better than the other is counterproductive; both are great/horrible in wildly different ways that comparing both regions gaming industries proves useless. I know it's a cop-out answer, but it really does boil down to personal preference/specific genres.

Westerners: don't understand escapism, try to shove futile ideas of trascendence to delude themselves they're making anything but tyos meant for entertainment as some fucked up way of projection, try to fix things that aren't broken thinking change for the sake of change is good and will kept them relevant, not focused on interactivity but on completely unrelated stuff.
Eastern: understands how escapism works and that people wants a way out from reality, happy with making games to entertain as they're meant to, focus on gameplay foremost, unrelated stuff works in service of gameplay and rarely hinder the gameplay

It's night and day. Asians make a medium and industry thrive, Westerners run it to the ground if in charge
