COD didn't destroy Battlefield, DICE destroyed Battlefield. Ever since BF4 there was a slow turnover of personnel from the 'old crew' that had been there from the beginning to the 'new crew'. I get it - it's rare for people to work somewhere for 20 years straight - but it means the design culture totally changed between BF4 and BF2042. BF1 was still mostly made by the old crew, but by BFV most of the old crew were gone and by 2042, DICE might as well have been a new company, and the new crew is fucking clueless about what makes a good Battlefield game, seemingly because EA has gone out of their way to hire people who don't even like Battlefield. Them putting Zampella in charge just seals the deal - they want a clone of Call of Duty, straight up.
