Some creators who enjoy videogames like Guillermo del Toro and John Woo are aware of him and respect his contributions to the medium. A lot the actors only humour him as part of the job due to his Sony Pictures connections, though.

They must like him to some degree. It's not like he's rich or from some powerful family. He's just some guy that makes successful but not megahit games.

Mads Mikkelsen had never heard of him, just that his agent told him "some guy from Japan who's a big player in the video game industry is interested in working with you". It was actually Mads' teenage son, who's a video game fan, who convinced him to take the job. Similar to Tommy Earl Jenkins, he'd heard of Metal Gear in passing and knew it was a video game but that was it - he had no idea who Kojima was.
