Pokemon has been dead for at least 15 years.

Switch era broke the camel's back for a lot of people (if not way earlier) and while I have no stats on it I think what remains of 4chan's userbase is old enough to not just consume, and the outlook is miserable across the board, be it mainline or spinoffs.

The last time they tried to be creative with a combat system we got Little Town Hero.
There is a good reason they never deviated much from the dinosaur-era Gen1 combat gameplay: it work, and for them it's a miracle they know won't happen twice.

I remember everything beyond the start and middle being really "how do I use the heightmap painting tools?" tier, which shit randomly sprinkled over it instead of trying to be interesting like the tutorial zone.

Gamefreak will make adjustments for edge cases like that if Legends Arceus is to go by. Abilities are technically in Arceus but litteraly just for Regigigas. Cherrim's sunshine form's base stats are also buffed to match what they would be if it had its ability.

If Zygarde is balance then I assume the new A legendary will be Chaos.

Not much has changed environment wise yet in older areas. There are random enemy bases that show up all over the older zones, settlement have gotten a good makeover, there are more quest givers spread throughout, and early dungeons have more variety now.

I picked up Cybersleuth when it was like 5 dollars for both games and bounced off it hard, there was no real strategy just the Vaccine>Virus>Data triangle which was absolute. Pokemon has types but you can still play around them with coverage moves and stuff, in Cyber Sleuth you'd do no damage no matter what attack you were using if you were the wrong type.
