I've got a similar dynamic in my game. You play as the red guy, the Wanderer. in the middle of every chapter, you spend a night by a camp fire with the blue guy, the Hermit.
Initially, it seems like Hermit has the right philosophy, encouraging Wanderer to forget his past traumas and grudges, and to move on with his life. But as the game goes on, we start to get the idea that Hermit isn't so much moving on as he is running away from his past. It flips the dynamic on it's head, and we might start to understand the Wanderer's perspective a bit more.

I'm allergic to just about every mammal except for humans, monkeys, and rodents. I nearly died when I was climbing up the mountain to see Neuschwanstein Castle because of all the horse carriages passing by triggering my allergies. Cats and dogs also make me incredibly uncomfortable.

No allergies to medicine, plants, or food though. I couldn't imagine living a life where I'm allergic to peanuts or flowers.
