Kf2 was instantly great from the initial early access release in 2015; It didn't have many maps or guns but the gameplay was tight as fuck and everyone loved it
Of course there were the people who hated the new art direction and shat on it for not being Kf1 but those people will never change their mind and it's kind of fair enough.
If anything, it's widely accepted in the Kf2 enjoyer community that the game was at its peak between 2015 and like 2018 when they added the EDARs and started cranking out these retarded re-skin weapons and essentially destroyed the whole game by introducing way too many stupid weapons, as well as cross-perking and upgrades. All these things together just watered down the base gameplay and class synergy until everything was just the same sloppy mud and nothing matters anymore and every game is just pure chaos (which is exactly what the devs enjoyed, if you watched their streams)
People who loved Kf2 for what it was during peak eventually moved to the custom difficulty mods and created their own curated versions of the game by removing all of that shit (and of course, adding their own ego-fueled sets of rules that created discord drama and turned normal people off their servers)
I'll admit I haven't touched the game in well over 5 years but the last time I took a look, it was unrecognizable from its original form.
It had a pretty good run, I would say nearly 5 years of being my favourite game. It sure was missing the grindhouse horror mood and some weapons were questionable, but the gameplay was unmatched. It was high octane and tight. Every class was good in their own rights. Every weapon was good in their own rights. Hell on Earth difficulty was actually kinda difficult and there was a real thrill to kiting around the map with the horde on your tail.
They did not "fix" Kf2, they ruined it.
