8.1 was the fixed version, but 8's issues were definitely exaggerated.

vista was pretty bad, but the real shitshow was ME.

Vista was bad for everything, not just games.

Used to work IT at a conpany who "upgraded" to Vista against my warnings and it brought the entire company down with all of the incompatibilities the system had with their software setups and infrastructure.

About 5 months later they finally switched all of their software setups to work with this new shit operating system and then the operating system itself was bypassed to hack all of the devices in the company and that company soon after filed for bankruptcy.

My story was not a one-off situation. Other people I know in the field also had similar catastrophic problems with Windows Vista.

It was BAD.

Vista introduced WDDM
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/display/windows-vista-display-driver-model-design-guide

if you're not underaged, you would understand why this ruined PC gaming and destroyed frutiger aero.

You'd be surprised to learn that most of the people on 4chan are 35 and above. It's like 80% 35 year olds.

15% stealth ad-bots, 5% legit newbs.

windows vista was probably my best windows experience between XP, VISTA, 8, 10, 11. It has the freedom and simplicity of use of XP but the stability of later versions. by the time i got it, it had already been out for 2 or so years. but i never had to reinstall it and it worked for almost a decade until the hard drive just stopped working. truly amazing looking back. aesthetically it looked great and basically was just a more polished version visually of the XP interface. i turned off a lot of the uneeded things like window transparency and such since it had an effect on performance but everything looked really futuristic and nice. windows 8 was really the beginning of the end with the flat interface and somehow they still are churning out the same identical looking horseshit to this very day.

Vista was a significant jump in system requirements.
>needs at least 2GB of ram and a 2Ghz cpu to run comfortably
>oems were not prepared what with them still selling prebuilts w/ 512mb of ram
>the additional resource needs also negatively affected vidya performance
>dx10 was not as big of an upgrade
>the new desktop window manager effectively forced vsync on a systemwide level which means mandatory input lag

If you had the hardware to run it, it was fine
there were some games that no longer worked however, that was annoying
I triple booted it with XP and Ubuntu for a while for DX10 games, but eventually went back to just XP and Ubuntu

Windows Vista with service pack 2 was pretty much Windows 7, at launch it was however dog shit.

Windows 8 & 8.1 with the startmenu mod was basically the first release of Win10

i havent customized anything with it, do you have any suggestions to look into? i personally think it looks ugly and depressing as hell but thats an entirely seperate issue i suppose to functionality. what should i be looking into de bloating and changing?

i go vista around 2007 so im guessing i had a later service pack. I was pretty impressed with it and couldnt understand the hate it got. it was way better than windows XP was and windows XP is probably the one i have the fondest memories of. i regret never experiencing windows 7 i heard nothing but praise about it, but my vista install lasted so long that by the time my vista machine died there were no more windows 7 being sold just windows 8. disgusting looking OS which launched at the perfect time where all consoles looked like soulless shit and all the franchises i cared about were also turning into trash. peak coordinated demoralization wave.
