In light of Dread, I would say that samus is the balance of the two tribes of chozo. both able to have compassion AND to fight and overcome.
It was the peaceful chozo’s folly to completely abandon power and put that ability in the metroids instead. It was the warlike chozos folly to pursue power by all means necessary, getting themselves destroyed by the x.
Samus is able and willing to fight, but is also capable of seeing the importance of compassion as well.
There is a great essay on this topic by C.S. Lewis called “The necessity of chivalry” Where he argues that chivalry as an ideal is the cultivation of both might and compassion and that its the only hope for any lasting dignity or happiness in the world. Which was especially relevant for when he was writing during wwii.
