Paul is a lot more complicated than just a binary "good or bad". He sees the future where his actions leads to the deaths of billions and it terrifies him, he doesnt want it, he actively does he best to avoid it. Everyone else in his life doesnt care though, they pressure and manipulate him into accepting this cruel fate. So while his actions are ultimately his choice, you still have to take into account why he does what he does and all the things/people influencing him. Its complicated, nuanced, something zoom zooms and third worlders struggle with.
