Nights of Azure 2 has a different protagonist and the story isn't extremly related to the first game, but considering that Arnice (the main character in the first game) also appears in the sequel among other things, I'd say that it's not required to play Nights of Azure first but it's recommended at least.

Sure, a lot of things in video games are unrealistic, it's unrealistic the fact that Atelier characters can suffer serious attacks and still fight or how there's very little blood in the franchise (characters don't bleed in many anime style games or at least we don't see the characters bleed)...but one draws the line somewhere, and that official art crosses the line and not in a good way.

It's true that a lot of Arland characters are modest in size (not just Totori and Mimi), but I kind of disagree that he rarely does big boobs and that they're not that big. A lot of Blue Reflection characters (especially Kokoro Utsubo) have big boobs after all.
