this chart is very misleading
someone just getting out of college is going to actually be looking for a job and so the official unemployment rate is actually going to be relatively accurate for them.
for everyone else though, you have to consider the real unemployment rate, the metric used during the great depression, aka how many working age adults are not working. This includes people who have just given up. This is like 25% now.
As for why females graduates are doing better than male ones? Its because they are nicer to look at

Certifications are now what degrees used to be. Employers don't give a shit about degrees because everyone has one now. A person with certifications stands out way more because it means they possess a specific skill set, requiring less training and having the drive to educate themselves as opposed to being handheld through 4 years of school.

t. landed a comfy remote network engineer gig with a handful of certs while multiple friends with degrees in compsci are unemployed or working at Shartmart.

the world is moving so fast that a ton of what you learn in college is outdated by like 3 years by the time you graduate except like the most basic of the basic stuff which you could learn in a month on your own. The only real advantage to college nowadays is access to nepobabies and professors with connections; oh and drunk whores too I guess

I have to sit through interviews and I'll tell you straight up that certifications are far more impressive than degrees. I don't want to hire a pothead who expects his employer to do his job for him, I want to hire someone who will hit the ground running and be self-sufficient.

if you're thinking about what degree to get, get your accounting degree and sit your CPA. CPAs are so fucking ubiquitously useful, everyone needs them, and you can strike out as an entrepreneur whenever the fuck you want, however the fuck you want. Plus it's not a sexy degree so there are never enough accountants, and your competition for jobs are all retards without social skills, so you can get ahead really easily if you put any effort at all into it.

Finance degrees are fun, but there's only so much you can do, and it's more difficult to strike out on your own. This is coming from a finance, accounting, and econ triple major who is now working as a management consultant. I never sat my CPA and I kick myself daily
