I think Kojima is a self important narcissistic hack but I gotta admit, MGSV was one if the best video games ever made.

How so?
It still plays better and has deeper mechanics than any game released in the past 5 years. It's also extremely optimized. I'm still pissed that Konami ditched Fox Engine for unrealslop.

It was funny watching those low iq grifters completely missing the whole plot and just screeching at Konami for firing Kojima. Those were some wild times. I replayed the game a few years ago and the story didn't really feel unfinished to me. I guess those people wanted some low iq/children's knight saves the princess tier story. MGSV had a bunch of open ended plot points and twists that require attention and thought since they were subtle.

Liquid Snake stole a super advanced mech and that plot was never resolved. This sci-fi tech is supposed to be mostly a secret, if something like that is being used by a child soldier it would change history. Venom Snake needed to destroy it or take it back.

You literally can play the main story missions and never engage in the open world.
Also, it's nothing like ubislop open world. It doesn't have towers, nothing is marked for you, it doesn't have mandatory check boxes, and it's designed by proper level designers and the points of interest are proper levels that are carefully designed by hand unlike the copy pasted shit ubislop does. And ubislop formula wasn't even prevalent when MGSV was released. Besides, MGSV map is very small and linear that it barely can be considered an open world.

Unironically yes. He played it off the theme of the game which is retarded and extremely pretentious. It's extremely easy to make a disappointing/unfinished product. Plenty of triple a companies do that all the time. But Kojima does it and suddenly it's brilliance.

What's funny about these posts is that you know these are the ones who were droning over Kojima a decade ago, but stopped because, for once, he made a videogame and not a movie boasting the very worst gameplay the stealth genre has seen (what little gameplay there was), which is what MGS1, 2, 3 and 4 were.

It plays like a dream. Even almost a decade later, the gameplay ages like fine wine and it arguably plays better than any other similar (tactical/slow bases) tps game.
The amount of ways you can approach a mission and the massive amount of tools and weapons you can use is absolutely insane and only few games come close.

MGSV was in development for almost 10 years. The only similarities between it and ubislop is that it had an open world (way too small to be comparable desu) and it had side missions and collectibles which can be said about all open world games including old GTA games.
It really feels nothing like a ubislop. It's like comparing Burnout Paradise to fucking Forza Horizon 4 of The Crew. Burnout Paradise was an open world game but it its map was nothing like and played nothing like a modern/unislop/AAA openslop template.

Ludonarrative perfection. The gameplay architecture, including lulls and 'cut content', is a deliberate choice to mirror the themes and literal elements of the plot.
Game of the Decade, easily, and nothing has ever come close to sythesizing interactivity and structure.

No, the point is Big Boss isn't a good guy.

Venom is an idealized Big Boss, he's what the legends paint Big Boss as: he's stoic, he cares for his men, he fights to make The Boss' wish of world peace come true and knows that, ideally, soldiers shouldn't be needed.

Big Boss on the other hand is a goofy moron who believes in Santa Claus, who fights because he just likes fighting, and can be so petty he started thinking less of The Boss and gave up on her ideals when he realized she wanted world peace, and not some sanctuary where soldiers were treated better. Plus he cared so little for his own men he didn't give a fuck about MSF being destroyed, he woke up and immediately left everything and everyone to build a nation that could allow him to spread war more effectively.

He's not shows to be a moustache twisting villain, but he wasn't one in MG1 and 2, just a cynical warmonger who knew he had no purpose beyond warfighting.

It was sad but I like moments like this and the part in MGS3 where you need to protect a wounded Eva. Just normal soldiers. After all the magic/sci-fi shit you've dealt with you get a reminder that soldiers, a lot of soldiers, can still fucking kill you and be an extreme threat.

>A chance at a real life, just not from behind a gun.
>We don't draw weapons on comrades. Look around you, this is your family.
>Your CQC is sloppy, come see me later for a lesson you won't forget.
>You are right, he's not one of us... But we are not responsible to judge an enemy. He leaves Mother Base and that'll be the end of it.
>He's right, I killed them with my own hands.
>I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. I will always be with you. Plant your roots in me. I won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds.
>I'm already a demon. Heaven's not my kind of place anyway.
>Either way one of these days we're gonna have to kill her. But now is not the time. When the time comes I'll pull the trigger.
>Anyone here can use a knife or a gun, what you're gonna learn is how to use your head.
>Just one thing, Kaz... This isn't about the past...We're fighting for the future.
>I haven't forgotten what you told me, Boss. We have no tomorrow, but there's still hope for the future. In our struggle to survive the present, we push the future farther away. Will I see it in my lifetime? Probably not. Which means there's no time to waste. Someday the world will no longer need us. No need for the gun, or the hand to pull the trigger. I have to drive out this demon inside me - build a better future. That's what I - what we - will leave as our legacy. Another mission, right Boss?
>That's right, don't blame yourself. Blame me.

tried replaying it on the 9th anniversary, I got bored after I finished the "Voices" mission and quit.

I think it's incredibly overrated and frankly I'm tired of the "you're in a sandbox, make your own fun!" style of game "design". I want to play something that feels like it was actually made with a vision in mind.

MGSV's problem isn't even that it's the open world, MG games for the most part are pretty sandbox-y but the world can't keep the sand flowing.

Still mad the game wasn't about controlling a weak amputee with a hook arm, Kojima just fixed it all with magic like usual. This trailer was wild with no confirmation of what it actually was.

Then you would have interesting limitations that favor a stealthy approach, and it would be a different mood and aesthetic to a usual game character. When I watched the trailer live I didn't know it was about MGS, so it seemed like a game about an amputee which was a fresh idea, on paper at least.
