Man, Rean was such a boring and generic protagonist that Falcom really missed out on just letting players create their own protagonist, would've been revolutionary for a JRPG to do that, too. You could've written the exact same game with a player protagonist as the one they did with Rean minus one or two irrelevant details. Massively missed opportunity.

Regarding the military side, Neptune is already the commander of the Planeptune military. Maybe something to do with strategy and leadership, stuff like that.

Magic is pretty much only used in a combat scenario in Trails. While the school does accommodate for mages (staves are an option for chosen student weapons), it's mainly on a "we will train you to use your magic arts and maintain your orbal equipment" basis and not Harry Potter stuff.
Besides, if Annette was a Thors student I feel like the way it would play out would be
