Yeah, it’s definitely there on purpose. I always figured that early appearance was meant to reinforce how deep the Von Braun's infestation had spread, even that early on. Like just a taste of what’s festering behind the walls. Plus, it kinda works as a tension builder-gives you that “what the fuck was that” moment before Hydro lifts the curtain all the way.

I remember perceiving them as just a weird thing that attacks you down there which, in the wide open space, you probably kill from far away. Then later on you hear them talking before you see and fight them in close quarters and understand what they're supposed to be for. It's probably just an oversight I'm over-intentionalizing but I think that was my reaction which still worked.

After being in development hell due to these tiny studios having minimal funding, the rights to SS3 were sold to Tencent who promptly ended development. Basically nothing is happening, and if it does it will be a total restart of development.

System Shock is one of those games that has an amazing reputation and legacy but nobody outside of a small group wants to play it.
Both games flopped in terms of sales, and I don't mean in the retarded shitposter way. It's annoying because Bioshock did really well and that's seriously dumbed down.
