I feel like there's this fundamental misunderstanding when it comes to villains. Villains motivations should make sense for their character, but that doesn't mean the villain needs to be morally nuanced or relatable. Sometimes a guy just wants to watch the world burn, and as long as you can sell that type of character to an audience it can be just as compelling as "muh misunderstood tragic villain".

I guess that title goes to Andross with Ganondorf being a close second. The best way I can explain it for Andross would have to be "suffers from a swelled head" both in terms of ego and his actual physical look after changing himself though experimenting on himself. He also had this fun thing of being this one Nintendo villain that twice and then all the stuff he left behind became a problem in the future and that's kinda cool in my book.

King Dedede's only really been a villain for Dream Land and adaptations of it like Blowout Blast or Spring Breeze, and arguably some spin-offs like Pinball Land, Right Back at Ya, or Block Ball. Every other time he's a boss he's either misunderstood and has good intentions at heart (Adventure, Squeak Squad), is brainwashed/possessed (Dark Matter Trilogy, Epic Yarn, Triple Deluxe, Star Allies, Forgotten Land), or just has a bone to pick with Kirby specifically and isn't doing anything really evil (Revenge of the King).

K. Rool probably works best as a Rattigan type villain. He has his theatrical personality based on whatever he's into at the moment, but deep down he's still an insane monster who's cruel.

He definitely shouldn't be Bowser. K. Rool shouldn't act redeemable, or friendly with Donkey Kong, or anything like that.
