I have never played fighting games before, but I'm feeling tempted to try one out. What's a good game where I can learn the basics? I would prefer something mainstream instead of those smaller games for fighting game fans specifically.

friend of mine got into Guilty Gear and dragged me in after a while
having not played any other fighting games I couldn't give you a comparison, but I think it's pretty great all around
