They made the cardinal sin of not giving enough free shit to players during the honeymoon period. Hundreds of thousands of braindead gambling addicts rushing in to gamble and they said "best I can do is two or three multis". Uma is actually way stingier with its pity and banners but people love that game because they're throwing multis at everyone twice a week.

Couple the furious gacha fans with a bunch of Persona tourists who know nothing about gacha games just sorta rolling with the "this game is greedy and evil" narrative gacha fans are pushing and this is the obvious outcome. All they had to do was give people free gems.
