>>715934053 (OP)I absolutely HATE how SM64 controls and its atrocious camera. Being able to tilt it only slighly feels like game is keeping you in a headlock and it forcefully snaps your face back where it wants you to look.
The shitty clocktower level being 10x harder than it should just because you can't eyeball your jumps.
Don't get me wrong, Crash is difficult but for the most part you can only blame yourself for being impatient and rushing. But the challenge is enclosed in short linear levels that you will get through in bursts meanwhile Mario punishes your mistakes by kicking you out from big open levels. Even getting a star feels punishing because game doesn't let you grab more than one at a time and forces you to redo entire level again. Granted you usually can't grab everything from a level in Crash at a one go but again - shorter lineat levels make the experience that much less annoying.
I personally feel like everyone just wears rose tinted glasses just because game was 'the first 3d platformer'. Yeah do? It doesn't magically turn it any less of an outdated crude relic that keeps fighting the player to wrestle as much fun out of their experience as it can by simply being that old and primitive. It's one of prime examples of a game that could be really great if it got a proper full remake that should be the one being remembered after removing original's enormous flaws with camera, collisions and slippery surfaces. It's so retarded, you don't see people fapping to pong just because it was first.
