WW1 doesn't make for an engaging game scenario it's literally mostly waiting around in a miserably damp or cold trench isolated from the world while trying not to die from snipers, gunners, artillery, chlorine gas and disease

That's because WWII draws the interests of many camps as to why it is the preferred war. From NatSocs larping as their (dystopian) future dream as gestapos to communists/bolsheviks and liberals having some power fantasy of murdering conservatives by assigning them as nazis. WWII is an obsession for many people because of the ideologies involved. You cannot say the same about this war.

WW1 has all the primitive prototype transitional tech and all the wacky inventions and doctrines that make engineers and logisticians happy. It's the most interesting for sure.

it's mostly revisionism though. ww2 is a war of nations at its core like ww1. you went to war hating the germans and not the nazis. source: my ass
There's a new WW1 game in playtest right now, but instead of being a World War 1 game, it's a "World War 1" game where everyone runs around with machineguns, flamethrowers and shotguns instead of bolt action rifles. Why do developers always make this mistake? 95% of every infantryman in WW1 was using a bolt action rifle, but videogames simply refuse to acknowledge this. The closest I've seen is Holdfast's WW1 mode.

I guess they think people want rapid firing weapons? Also it doesn't force the casuals to aim I guess. Too bad because i love bolt action rifles
