I wonder if there are any anons with their 2003-2004 accounts still active
My brother made an account for me in 2004, I didn't really care until 2010, but by then I had forgotten the password and so did he, and support basically told me to go fuck myself when I asked to recover the account. I think the only game in it were CSS and DoD, but I wish I still had it to flex that 20 year badge

Of course not, everyone bought the boxed game and then got home and found out they needed to make a faggy account on a faggy platform to play it.

The first game I bought on Steam was The Orange Box, because it was a good deal. Since then, I've spent barely anything on the platform, maybe 500 bucks over 23 years. Can't believe I spent 50 bucks on L4D, crazy.

More like executives from other shit industries stepped in not knowing what the fuck to expect and destroyed the industry.
Prior to 2010 developers did whatever suit them the best which was chaotic, this is back when everyone complained about crunch time and deadlines but games certainly got made.

The gaming dev cycle nowadays is a bureaucracy where wheels are constantly spinning, paperwork is constantly coming in and out so some faggot in management gets a sense of control, ultimately all this "planning" is the sole culprit for all the retarded time waste in the industry, this is why indies can outdo AAA games today because you need to fill 7 forms and get 3 signatures from 4 different departments so you can take a piss.

Not all games on steam use DRMs, they just don't advertise it since this is part of their marketing unlike gog

Depressing for the most part, even at the peak of their popularity. Most people only played WOW or CS. I think the better ones had consoles for Gears of War and Halo 3. In Asia they were the center of all scum and villainy.
Gold farmers, dupers, cheaters and ERPers.

The gaming ones faded faster than arcades.
The few alive ones are essentially paper supply stores with incredibly old and unreliable computers not suitable for anything really. They are worse than business centers at any hotel, you can tell most of them predate standards and practices as well as basic online hygiene practices by several years, I mean most of them still run Windows XP and Windows ME.
