It's simple. As medium of entertainment, Nintendo IPs like Mario, Zelda and such, have consistently been received as some of the best examples that the medium as produced.

Consistently for 40 years straight.

And the memorable characters and worlds have endured as a result.

Basically people who grew up loving these games now have families for their own and want their own kids to experience that magic too.
